ALT Infographic summarizing a multicenter retrospective observational cohort study (2010-2019) of 338 patients under 18 with hepatoblastoma across 19 institutions undergoing primary tumor resection. Compared to non-IBT patients, intraoperative blood transfusion (IBT) patients had a higher incidence of death, higher post-op hemoglobin, required more post-op transfusions, and showed no difference in recurrence rates. Findings suggest possible over-transfusion and transfusion-related coagulopathy. Conclusion: Intra-op blood transfusion was associated with a higher risk of death in children undergoing hepatoblastoma resection, and more restrictive transfusion strategies may improve outcomes.
