Zoom and big financial firms add ‘Proof of Human’ badges from Sam Altman’s World to stop fraud and deepfakes
On Sunday, a company called World—which makes an orb device that uses iris scans to create a “ Proof of Human “—announced that videoconferencing service Zoom, as well as several big financial companies, is adopting its technology to keep out malicious bots. The verification tool is part of a broader suite of services called World ID. Companies can, of course, decide when such proof is required, and reserve this level of scrutiny for sensitive calls.

The four things we learned from Jets’ Week 6 loss: Stunning stat that haunts Aaron Glenn
1. When we look back at the Aaron Glenn tenure some day, the first moment where I think a lot of us began to wonder about him came in London last year when he mismanaged the end of the first half in a loss to the Broncos. Since then, Glenn has cleaned some things up but one thing remains a weakness for the Glenn Jets: they stink at the end of the first half. It was on display again Sunday as the Patriots scored 10 points in the final two minutes of the first half and the Jets scored none. The Jets have been outscored 20-0 at the end of the first half this season and they have been outscored a staggering 100-6 in Glenn’s 23 games as head coach.

The New York Housing Court Problem Comes Home to City Hall
One of the city’s largest residential property owners is confronting the same fundamental question owners of privately held buildings do: What good is a property right if exercising it takes years? At New York City Housing Authority ’s (NYCHA) Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea campuses, the city wants to replace 2,056 aging apartments and add thousands of new homes. The redevelopment is expected to leverage private capital and transform public housing in a desirable neighborhood. But redevelopment requires possession. Residents challenged the redevelopment, and NYCHA is now confronting holdouts.

Exploratory committee meets in Manhattan to begin talks about potential NYC-Lake Placid bid for 2042 Winter Olympics
A potential plan to bring the 2042 Winter Olympics to New York City and Lake Placid kicked off in earnest Monday with the meeting of a state-appointed Exploratory Committee that will help decide whether the Empire State should go for the gold with the joint venture. Gov. Kathy Hochul said the committee includes an all-star roster of more than 90 experts in a variety of fields — including business, government, sports, and community leadership — that will examine the feasibility of making a joint bid between the Big Apple and Lake Placid for the 2042 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. New York City has never hosted an Olympic Games of any kind, while Lake Placid held the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980.

The Knicks are NBA champions. Now they have to start dressing the part.
NBA and WNBA players alike are known to be some of the most stylish professional athletes. Their looks, whether surprisingly audacious or just immaculately tailored, paved the way for other sports leagues to work with stylists and fashion designers for these pregame moments. Given the New York Knicks’ historic triumph last season, the pressure is on for the team to once again perform at an exceedingly high level — and, by extension, for them to project that prestige as they make their ways through the tunnel. Many fans pay close attention to what players are wearing as they walk from an arena entrance to the locker room, or what’s popularly known as their “tunnel fits.” These outfits are a player’s opportunity to convey a certain image, whether it be of strength, coolheadedness or an intimidating level of swagger. A tailored, designer look can signal to the public (along with future opponents) that a player is a very big deal both on and off the court. Showing up in a T-shirt and sweats might suggest that their mind is trained on the game.

Robot factories and hypersonic missiles: JPMorgan Chase’s first $5 billion of defense investments
JPMorgan Chase has made $5 billion in startup investments in the first year of its U.S. security and resiliency initiative , the company said Monday, a faster-than-expected pace that indicates the bank is finding plentiful opportunities in emerging defense, manufacturing and supply chain firms. The bank, which last year said it would deploy $10 billion into startups over a decade, may expand the program beyond that initial dollar amount, JPMorgan co-President Doug Petno told CNBC in an interview.

The stories behind how Villanova landed stars who helped Knicks end title drought: ‘Really good breaks’
Three years after reaching the Final Four, the Wildcats hit rock bottom, equaling their most losses (19) in program history. Wright faulted himself. He had gone away from what made Villanova successful. Top recruits wanted to follow after the run to the national semifinals in 2009, and it didn’t work. However, it might have been the best thing to happen to Wright and Villanova in the long run. It was a wake-up call. A reminder of what worked for the school. Wright and his coaching staff altered their recruiting approach to going after not just talented players, but high-character athletes with a strong work ethic whose sole focus wasn’t to get to the NBA as fast as possible.

Editorial | Mamdani right to stand by Tisch as NYPD keeps city safer than ever
The old saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” When it comes to the NYPD, its performance and leadership, Mayor Zohran Mamdani seems to have embraced that statement. And why not? Through the first nine months of his first year in office, the mayor and all of us New Yorkers have been enjoying a safer city thanks to the NYPD — a 6.6% decrease in overall crime (86,023 incidents this year vs. 92,057 at the same point in 2025) and the fewest shooting incidents, shooting victims, and murders for the first three quarters of any year in recorded NYPD history.

People in China are spending nearly as much of their income as Americans on healthcare
BEIJING — High healthcare costs are a big factor driving people in China to save, rather than spend, their money, the International Monetary Fund pointed out in a new book titled "Toward a New Economic Growth Model for China." In rural China, 8.7% of disposable income is spent on healthcare — just second to the U.S. among 20 major economies, the research found. The U.S. ranks the highest in the world with nearly 9.9% of disposable income spent on healthcare.

Why hedge funds could be making a bond market shock more likely
Hedge funds' increased presence in global bond markets makes the likelihood of a broader market shock "greater than what it was," Bank of England deputy governor Sarah Breeden told CNBC Thursday. Breeden — the central bank's deputy governor for financial stability, and a member of its rates-setting Monetary Policy Committee — said the changing mix of bond market investors, and their increased use of leverage, raises the risk of localized market turbulence turning into broader financial stress.
