I’m curious, would this ‘stated rule’ happen to be Canon 1153? Oh…
Replying to @dilanesper
The reality is the Church's stated rule (that even abusive marriages must remain together) is immoral, so they use annulment as an escape valve, BS'ing that the marriage was "tainted from the outset". But the actual granting of annulments is entirely inconsistent.

And you do. Especially in criminal cases. Here, they will have such an opportunity at trial and possibly in depositions. Those interactions will be controlled to protect anonymity in the face of the public.
You must have the right to face your accuser.

How the First Lady secured a ceasefire before Witkoff is beyond us.
According to a release from the office of First Lady Melania Trump, she and her team have secured a localized ceasefire for the city of Oleshky in Ukraine between Ukraine and Russia. Per the release, technical teams between the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia have worked to facilitate the safe evacuation of remaining civilians, primarily the elderly, between October 29 and a yet unspecified date. In addition the this, an impartial team of U.S. media will document the ongoing venture and both Ukrainian and Russian non-military personnel will work with residents to facilitate the evacuation.

In case anyone remembers, this was Trump’s peace plan in… 2025. It’s not actually an awful plan. HOWEVER, Putin won’t accept it. Yet, Trump will be, inevitably, convinced by some Con job that Zelensky is to blame for Putin’s aggression.
The US new peace plan to end the war in Ukraine has been revealed: -A demilitarised zone will be created along the current frontline or when the fighting for the Donbas has concluded. -Trilateral negotiations will start between Ukraine, Russia and the US to end the war. -Ukraine will drop NATO bid and in return will be given investments and EU integration. -Many sanctions will be lifted on Russia and US investment will take place, as well as the west and Europe normalising relations with Russia. -Potential restart of Nord Steam gas pipeline into Europe supplying energy.

I am a big proponent of “if you define a term, that term is the only term you use throughout the rest of whatever you are writing when referencing said defined item.” If I say “[person] (“Plaintiff”) it is plaintiff throughout the ENTIRE document after.
This is a minor point, but judges (“judges”) you don’t have to explain the use of terms (“terms”) if the reference is obvious (“obvious”).

We should add that Putin has murdered or imprisoned his political opponents. He’s attacked multiple countries. And now, a cornered rat.

I agree with Pope Leo XIV's opposition to the death penalty and, quite frankly, I find the hostility directed towards him for defending the dignity of human life deeply troubling. That said, I do realise that there is a legitimate theological question here which deserves serious engagement rather than accusations of heresy. Both Pope John Paul II & Benedict XVI moved the Church decisively towards abolition, while carefully preserving the distinction between capital punishment being morally permissible in principle & practically unjustifiable in modern circumstances. Francis's 2018 revision of the Catechism went further, declaring it inadmissible because it violates human dignity. I did not agree with that because creates a genuine question of doctrinal continuity, given the Church's centuries-long acceptance of capital punishment in principle. Pope Leo's statement offers an important justification: modern societies can protect the innocent & satisfy justice without executing offenders. But that is an argument grounded partly in circumstances, whereas the language about human dignity sounds categorical. If capital punishment is intrinsically wrong, the availability of prisons is irrelevant. If it is wrong because effective alternatives exist, the argument is necessarily conditional. That tension deserves further theological clarification, not outrage. We can welcome the Church's increasingly emphatic defence of human life while asking how this teaching develops organically from what came before. As Newman understood so well, authentic doctrinal development deepens our understanding of truth; it does not contradict it. And surely Catholics, of all people, should be capable of discussing this without treating the Pope as an enemy of the Faith?
The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty

I’m not against public executions. Executions in America are often open to media observers, family, and sometimes others. In some states, if you want to attend an execution, you can make it happen. I think that’s fine. What I object to is streaming an execution to millions of people as, unavoidably, a form of vulgar entertainment. An execution is a solemn enactment of moral judgment. It is a serious affair. It is not something that needs a comments section and to be clipped for memes.

Again and again, this disastrous administration brings discredit even to the otherwise defensible policies it tries to implement. The death penalty should be kept on the books for cases where it is necessary to protect society, as even Pope St. John Paul II acknowledged. It should never be turned into a ghoulish spectacle or public entertainment. When executions were carried out in the Papal States, it was not done in a spirit of revenge or gloating. The emphasis was instead on solemnly doing everything necessary to facilitate the salvation of the condemned man’s soul, by urging him to accept his punishment in a spirit of repentance, offering the sacraments, and calling on the public to pray for him. That was a Christian attitude toward the matter. Livestreaming a man’s death is reminiscent instead of pagan Rome and its libido dominandi. There is something deeply wrong with these people. By the disgrace they bring upon the Christian morality they claim to represent, they succeed only in giving aid and comfort to its enemies.

Maybe we can leverage this moment to point out that no-knock full-force police raids based on anonymous calls are obviously insane and the police need to be held accountable for being morons about this

At 7pm on Tuesday, a cop in Doe’s hometown responded to a disturbing call: A man had shot his mother and turned the gun on his sister. The officer rushed to Doe's home, where he apprehended her brother and boyfriend, the report says. But the information was bogus.

Where you went wrong was assuming that these guys were smarter than this. They’re teaching *their own kids* to radicalize into violent hate for attention to THEIR virtue signaling. This “MAGA will look moderate with my Gen Z kid” stuff is the right-wing equivalent of dressing your 4yp boy in a princess outfit and calling him Judy to prove you’re left enough.
“The wife and kids and cute house in the suburbs we were given to get us to shut up” It’s surreal to hear people I KNOW are smarter than this say such incomprehensibly stupid nonsense

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

If you’re a Republican, you should be pretty steamed at Schmitt right now for hijacking a Congressional investigation to position himself in line to be Vance’s VP, then totally blowing the whole thing to shit.
HOLY CRAP! Senate investigators just confirmed to me Smith's team obtained @MZHemingway comms through NARA.

Okay, so make the ID free.
Because if you charge money to obtain the ID required to vote, you've effectively created a poll tax, which is banned by the 24th amendment. So you gotta make whatever ID is required to vote free to obtain.

Unsurprisingly, some of Sheen is more universal while some is more specific to a time/place. Now that the Berlin wall has been down longer than it was up, Soviet Communism is not the threat it was in Sheen's prime. However, that doesn't mean the Church supports XXI century leftwing ideology as Hale tries to imply.
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Pope Leo XIV’s delegate to the beatification of Fulton Sheen, didn’t mention communism once in his homily today. He did mention Sheen’s care for the poor and marginalized at least fourteen times. “For Archbishop Sheen, caring for the poor was not ideological propaganda, but an imperative for the following of Christ.”

This story makes me angry (not upset, not even disgusted—though that’s probably also there). It makes me angry in a way that can only be described as apoplectic or violent. I cannot imagine the grief of the family and this murder is placed at the feet of the @Canada government.

Catholics must, of course, understand the Pope’s meaning in the full context of the deposit of faith. We recall, for instance, that the Church celebrates an annual feast to commemorate God’s hearing the prayers of a pope and saint as he waged war on Muslim invaders at Lepanto.
“Jesus doesn’t hear the prayers of those who wage war.” — Pope Leo XIV
