The new document (a “Note” signed by heads of three Vatican dicasteries) says: “Early Christianity developed from the movement initiated by Jesus and his disciples, distinguishing itself from the various forms of Judaism over time.” This is a false or at best a misleading statement. Jesus and his disciples didn’t initiate a movement that distinguished itself from Judaism over time. That’s the Modern Liberal Protestant view of Albert Schweitzer and the early Modernists (Loisy) it’s condemned by Pius X in Lamebtabili (prop. 52) and in the Oath Against Modernism. No, Jesus founded the Catholic Church on Peter (Mt 16:16-18), the new non-Levitical priesthood (Mt 26), new Sacraments (Mt 28:18), and a new Covenant in His blood (Lk 22:20) which fulfilled and concluded/abolished the old. Pius XII teaches this definitively in Mystici Corporis, a. 29. And yes, its implementation was a process but that process was completed at Pentecost. Its completion did not occur at or after the destruction of the Temple in 70AD, as the Note seems to indicate!

While France's Lourdes shrine moves to cover mosaics by Father Marko Rupnik, Brazil's National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida in São Paulo celebrated new installations by the artist, who faces decades of allegations of sexual, spiritual and psychological abuse. The celebration on Sept. 12 included music, prayers, biblical dramatizations and fireworks. The installation, which surrounds the entire basilica, is credited to the Centro Aletti, the art studio founded by Father Rupnik, whose canonical trial is still under review by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. In this video, posted by TV Aparecida on Sept. 1, Redemptorist fathers who administer the shrine, place some last stones in the western - and last - facade, inaugurated Sept. 12. As one of the prelates placed a stone at the beginning of this fragment of the video, a person standing next to him and giving instructions can be seen wearing a construction hat with the initials "MIR," and bearing a strong physical resemblance to Father (Marko) Rupnik, whose middle name is Ivan. We can't see his face, as he is hidden behind the friar. @OSVNews' @jae_journalist reached out to the shrine's communications office Sept. 17 to confirm whether the person was Father Rupnik, since the initials matched his full name. The office was also asked what guided its decision to allow the priest to continue despite pleas from alleged victims and his ongoing canonical trial. OSV News is awaiting a response from the shrine. AN OPEN LETTER TO TILLAMOOK @Tillamook, I have purchased and enjoyed your products for years, which is why I was extremely disappointed to learn that the majority of your cheeses are now Halal certified. As a Christian, I have deeply held religious convictions about the food I purchase and bring into my home. I respect that Muslim consumers may want Halal-certified products available to them, and I have absolutely no objection to grocery stores carrying Halal products or having dedicated Halal sections. People should be able to purchase food that aligns with their religious beliefs. But my faith matters too. Because of my Christian convictions, I will not knowingly consume food that I believe has been prayed over, blessed in the name of another faith, or offered or sacrificed in connection with worship of any god other than the Lord and Savior I believe in. I should have the same freedom to make that choice. When a major mainstream brand chooses to place religious certification across a large portion of its regular product line, my choice becomes whether to accept that certification or stop purchasing those products. For me, the answer is simple. I will choose another brand. I would encourage Tillamook to consider consumers of other faiths when making decisions like this and to make religious certification clear and transparent so every customer can make an informed choice according to his or her own conscience. AND THIS IS ALSO A MESSAGE TO EVERY OTHER MAJOR FOOD BRAND WATCHING THIS TREND: If you choose to put Halal certification across your regular product lines rather than offering Halal-certified alternatives, understand that some Christian consumers will respond by no longer purchasing those products. If you put it across your entire brand, I WILL BOYCOTT the entire brand. I also encourage major grocery stores to consider dedicated Halal sections, just as they have Kosher and international sections, rather than integrating Halal-certified products throughout the store. Give everyone a clear choice. Muslim consumers have the right to choose Halal. Christian consumers have the right to choose not to. That choice deserves respect too!
