Research shows that it can be less stressful to talk to someone when you’re walking side by side, with minimal eye contact, than conversing face to face. Here are some tips to get the most out of your strolling chats. nyti.ms/3MZmLBR

Households in Denver’s densest neighborhoods drive less. For example, a 30% increase in population density is associated with a 1,000-mile decrease in annual household driving. 👀 this chart (thank you @CNT_tweets for the data & @Sightline for the inspiration!) 3/

Someone’s made a nice visual aid showing how @TfL’s Lowering Speeds Programme is making our streets safer:

“The problem isn’t gentrification. It’s displacement. Gentrification is an infusion of dollars into a community, which we want… The problem is we are reactive, not proactive. Need to come together to plan for anti-displacement measures” @ctbrown1911 #MPF2023

Guys the Coral Gables Police had a Halloween installation on Miracle Mile where the premise was, I guess, they ran some people over? Pretty chilling.

It's time for an early reminder: Victim blaming kids on Halloween is WRONG. Safety starts with street engineers and licensed, adult drivers. Period. Halloween is the ONE holiday left that upholds the youth and pedestrian-friendly street. Let's keep it that way.

The driver who struck NFL coach Greg Knapp from behind, in broad daylight, while Knapp rode in a painted bike lane on a six-lane road, will not face criminal charges. This is not accountability. And *no* crash like this is an accident. bit.ly/3o2pGP5

Fun fact for your Monday: the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill has $1 billion to reconnect BIPOC communities torn in half by highways, and $110 billion to build more highways just like it.
The dismantling of Black communities for highways is not just a thing of the past. It’s happening now a few miles north of Charleston...at a time when @POTUS and @SecretaryPete have vowed to stop it. Instead they are supercharging it with the infra bill. washingtonpost.com/climate-e…

Yes! Free and accessible public restrooms are a critical part of our pedestrian infrastructure, and denying them in a widely overlooked street safety issue.
Over the past few years Berlin has built an extensive network of public bathrooms in parks, near popular sights, and at transit stops. 🚰🚽 They help tourists, the unhoused, and regular residents alike. They are cheap to maintain & incredibly popular. Let’s do this everywhere!

There are several powerful virtuous cycles of street trees that benefit so many parts of the built environment and the people who inhabit it. As we spend more time outdoors, no single element plays a larger role in benefitting us than street trees. cnu.org/publicsquare/2020/08…

The traffic violence crisis alone should be reason enough to end universal car dependency in America. The climate crisis makes it an absolute mandate. Ht @StreetsblogNYC, @bartoonist
⁦Designing slower-speed roadways moves us away from police involvement in traffic enforcement, mitigating the #Arrestedmobility that Black/brown people experience due to police profiling & underinvestment. ⁦@rebeccalsanders⁩ ⁦@PedBikeBob⁩ usa.streetsblog.org/2021/07/…

Honored to have been invited by #MSNBC to discuss disparities in #traffic fatalities with Rev. Al Sharpton. #Black and #Native Americans fatalities were up even during the pandemic when fewer miles were driven. #Arrestedmobility #equity #healthequity lnkd.in/ecYvZkU
