I made a graphic representing possible paleolithic African populations, and relationships with modern populations. This is my first time making a phylogenetic graphic and much of it is inference, so please bear with me. In this thread, I'll break it down; sources at the end.

Unpopular opinion: I think *PART* of the reason for this is that many Niger-Congo ethnic groups somewhat remember that part of their ancestry genuinely originated in the Nile area, in the paleolithic. Nothing to do with Egyptian civilization, but references more ancient origins
Why do many ethnic groups in Africa have oral traditions stating that their ancestors came from Egypt ? 😭

Now, is some of it clinging to Egypt from colonial propaganda? For sure. But, I think those migration stories are partially genuine memory and oral history. Especially since archaeology shows it to be true. West Africans partially descend from hunter-gatherers in Northeast Africa

Interestingly , I've tend to notice that a good portion of them have a distinguishable reddish to medium brown skin color ,whilst also having somewhat of light brown tints on their hair. Seems like their hair is also less tighter than other Central/West Afs. 🇨🇲🇨🇩🇨🇬🇬🇦

Picture of my late maternal grandfather & some of his brothers (my uncles). Wish I knew what year this was. They were all from Mound Bayou, Mississippi which is/was a Black town founded in 1887 by former slaves. Booker T Washington praised the town for being a self reliant & autonomous all Black community.

Saw a post that around 6k Malagasy were sent to the US during the Middle Passage. It’s wild how tens of millions of us have that particular ancestry according to genetic studies and personal dna testing company results. This one way to remember how so many of us are interrelated.

4. The Bantus actively mixed and assimilated with the natives of some of the places they moved into (if there were people living there in the first place) 5. The bantu expansion unironically exploded the population of some of the people they encountered because of agriculture.
