So a phob is a motherboard replacement for the gamecube controller that is community designed. The main difference is it uses hall effect sensors instead of potentiometers for stick inputs. It also has other features such as built in snapback reduction, stick calibration . . .

I'm sad to report that Jack Plants has passed away. Their dad called me this morning to give me the news. They were found in their apt in Richmond.
They were frustrating but always a great friend, bright charismatic and creative. They moved across the country on a whim with me
