At today’s State Board of Education meeting, 10-year-old Jack Fitch of Light of the World Academy in Pinckney gave public comments while portraying State Supt Dr. Glenn Maleyko for a school living wax museum project — complete with his own homemade “Students First” banner.

Wonderful students here for ⁦@MICharters⁩ day at the Capitol who studied various people in and around state government and dressed as them: reps, senators … and me 😆. Andrew here did a great job — and that wig is pretty close to my hair at that age. Great group of kids.

At 2am this morning, Senate Democrats passed a bill, under the false guise of transparency, with the intent to begin the elimination of charter schools in Michigan. Now, more than ever, parents and students need choice and opportunity in education.

Great to visit with the folks from the MI Association of Public School Academies today in Lansing. The best part was the 11 fifth graders who put on a living wax museum of all the legislative leaders in Lansing. Spencer had the “Aric Nesbitt” down pat! Well done!

Today at the Michigan State Capitol, bright @MICharters students portrayed state officials and public figures. I met "Matt Hall" and longtime Capitol reporter "Tim Skubick." Charter schools across Michigan give parents great options as they educate the next generation.

Public assets should not be restricted from any public use. Oppose HB 5025 Current law works. @MIHouseDems @MI_Republicans @MISenDems @MISenate
In Detroit, the bankrupt school district used to sit on blighted and abandoned buildings in order to prevent other public or private schools from buying and redeveloping them. A state law was passed to prevent the uses of these types of property deed restrictions, leading to better schools opening and expanding and increasing educational opportunities for children. But the state legislature is now considering a bill that would repeal that law. If passed into law, more run-down buildings would litter our state. And more Michigan school kids would be kept from pursuing better educational options.
