House Republicans are taking a deep dive into what is wrong with Michigan's elections and ballot certification processes. Rep. Mike Harris will chair the Select Committee on the Rules and Procedures of the Bureau of Elections and the Board of State Canvassers. The committee will hear from experts for the first time on how these broken systems can be improved.

We must look into broken systems that can allow over 700,000 voices to be silenced on issues that have over 80% support nationwide. Our select committee is kicking off soon, looking into the Bureau of Elections and the State Board of Canvassers, hearing expert testimony on broken election processes, and targeting issues that get in the way of the people's voice.

Disregarded because of three "invalid" signatures that were later accompanied by affidavits from the signers verifying that they did in fact sign the petition for ONLY CITIZENS VOTING IN MICHIGAN. First responders gathered with us at the State Capitol this week as we marked 25 years since 9/11. Their stories reminded us of the men and women who ran toward the danger and stood with their fellow Americans once the dust had settled. Stories like those of the 42 people that were born, raised, schooled, or had roots in Michigan, and also the Michigan sheriff's deputies, firefighters, and other first responders rushing to help in the days that followed. Rep. Kathy Schmaltz (representing Jackson & Chelsea) has done great work this year for foster kids. Her bill has been signed into law, fixing a broken system that used to withhold funds from kids in the foster system when they needed it.
