A highly productive day on Capitol Hill! Thank you to all the FSBA members and district staff who traveled to Washington, D.C., to represent Florida’s public schools. We are honored to work alongside such dedicated leaders.

Florida doesn’t lead the nation by protecting silos. We lead by breaking them. Today I announced leadership changes at the @EducationFL designed to do exactly that—strengthen collaboration, speed decisions, and treat PK–20 and workforce as one system serving students, families, and educators. This team brings experience, urgency, and a shared commitment to excellence and educational freedom. Our structure now matches the mission: deliver results for Florida students and the Governor’s education and economic agenda.
Commissioner @HenMackIII announced leadership changes that will strengthen collaboration, improve efficiency, break down silos, and further Florida’s commitment to excellence in education and workforce development. Florida continues to lead the nation in education, and these changes will help ensure even greater success for students, families, and educators. Read more at: bit.ly/4yomkHi

We are deeply saddened by the senseless death of Wolf Lake Elementary parent Daryl Alexander Hill. A beloved member of the Wolf Lake family, Mr. Hill was known by teachers, parents, and students alike.

Millions of Americans disconnected—neither employed nor enrolled—plus ~40M with some college, no credential. In Florida, no longer can we tolerate dead-end seat time programs—it’s skills, apprenticeships, & Integrated Education & Training (IET), the game-changer. Adults build literacy + occupational skills concurrently, earning credentials for high-wage jobs in healthcare, manufacturing, & more. 🇺🇸🇺🇸⬇️
It’s never too late to reach your goals. Florida’s adult education programs help individuals earn their diploma and build skills for today’s workforce. Finish what you started—your way. Find a program at GetTherefl.com/search #YourWayFL

These numbers are eye-popping. Under-enrollment is now a crisis in both K-12 and higher education. It’s causing per-student costs to spiral while results continue to decline. State politicians who wax eloquent while ignoring the problem don’t actually care about our kids.
I don’t think people have fully absorbed just how big the declines in student enrollment are going to be. Eight states are projected to experience DOUBLE DIGIT declines by 2031.

Superintendent Elijah Key emphasized that the teacher union represents fewer than 20% of educators in Gadsden County. Despite this limited support, the union continues to stall salary negotiations for all teachers by tying them to evaluation results. He added that the union also resists proposals aimed at strengthening teaching and learning. The union meant to support teachers is instead focusing its attention on preserving its relevance, to the detriment of the high-quality teachers it purports to represent.

If a union doesn’t have support of the majority of employees, then it shouldn’t be bargaining on behalf of all employees! That is common sense. HB 995, which brings accountability to unions and requires a majority vote of all employees for union certification & recertification, will be up at its final committee stop tomorrow!
Teacher unions are more focused on advancing activism than prioritizing student safety or supporting the educators they represent. Thanks to bill sponsors @jenna_persons and @JonMartinEsq, teacher unions will be more transparent and accountable to those they represent. realcleareducation.com/artic…
