This is why I support the South African government for not giving a toss about Elon Musk's rants and propaganda on X regarding his Starlink internet service. Imagine having an internet service that can be switched off at a whim by its right-wing owner. Imagine having a disagreement with America and your internet service being cut by the president's ally who owns the company. It is the kind of behaviour you expect from dictators, yet it is exactly what Elon Musk and Donald Trump have done to Ukraine over Starlink. I have no stake in the Ukraine-Russia war. But when South Africa is being accused of a fake genocide by both Musk and Trump, and you see what has happened to Ukraine over Starlink, it becomes clear that such a company should never be allowed into the country on the back of special treatment. A country needs service providers who are reliable, predictable and stable. Otherwise, you hand power to a right-wing billionaire to plunge your country into an internet blackout whenever you disagree with him. No nation that values its sovereignty should make its critical infrastructure dependent on the mood of one foreign businessman.
