I was proud to support the UK Government Bill that will make fire and rehire illegal. It is astonishing that weeks out from the ban coming into play, the SNP-led Glasgow City Council are threatening this cruel practice on its own workforce.
This morning, I have written to @GlasgowCC Chief Executive asking her to rule out this cruel threat of fire and rehire and bring in ACAS to work with the trade unions and Glasgow City Council to find a fair settlement ๐๐

Is this the reason the SNP want employment law devolved so they can avoid the largest upgrade in workers rights in the generation with @UKLabours Employment Rights Bill?
It beggars belief that the SNP council is threatening to railroad through fire and rehire before it is made illegal in this country by the UK Labour government.
It may not break the letter of the law but it certainly breaks the spirit of it. Itโs a despicable way to treat working people. Itโs straight out the Tory playbook.
All parties need to get round the table and hammer out a deal,and working people should never be threatened like this again.

Today we accepted funding to try to end rough sleeping in Preston. This is the ambition of our new @UKLabour PM @andyburnham .
