The Portadown district orange order should be absolutely proud of how they have conducted themselves in the last fortnight , they applied to a parades commission they were given the go ahead after 28 years of applications , they didn't succeed because of illegal protests , what they didn't do was bring loyalists prisoners onto the streets to back them up , they didn't bring thousands to cause tensions and they certinally didn't have a bomber talk for them , the PUL community owes great thanks to the orange order for they have opened the eyes of many unionists that was wondering what a new Ireland would be like for them , and IMO it's not a good vision that's been made absolutely clear with the reaction on the garvaghy road , time to walk away with your heads held high .

If ever it proved there is one law for Republicans and Nationalists and one for Pro Union people in Northern Ireland the Chief Constable has just verified this with his call to @RhonddaBryant . How can @little_pengelly possibly continue to prop up a law breaking First Minister?
There is understandably huge anger, disgust and rage engulfing the unionist/loyalist community following the Chief Constable’s surrender to Sinn Fein.
But urge everyone to remain calm. There are many ordinary decent PSNI officers who are as disgusted with Boucher, his policing and his weakness as we are.
We won; they couldn’t defeat us using the law, and we have exposed the whole two tier policing & wider institutions for what they are.
Legal action will now inevitability follow.

Well that didn’t last long. You could not even wait for the Court of Appeal as you stated. Rolling over to threats of violence and law breakers. What next will you give in to the mob on ?
Replying to @RhonddaBryant
We await the judgement of the Court of Appeal, but that should not stop us trying to seek a mutually beneficial outcome. My door remains open and I will be talking to others to try and see the situation resolved for the good of all communities in Northern Ireland. 2/2

I think this is a serious mistake by Bryant. I have no particular affinity for the Orange Order. And I appreciate the history and sensitivities of the Drumcree dispute. But the Orangemen made the application in the correct way and secured a lawful determination to hold a much-scaled-back parade. Opponents, including the first minister, then blocked the road (and thereby the parade) unlawfully. And Bryant has given in to them. How is Bryant now going to convince unionists that the rule of law and constitutional politics still point the way forward for Northern Ireland? This has opened a huge can of worms.
Northern Ireland Secretary Sir Chris Bryant is to ban the Drumcree parade.

NEW: Emergency Judicial Review proceedings are being prepared against the Secretary of State. His order is irrational, unlawful and incentivises the threat of disorder.
Only some REPUBLICAN accounts can reply... a weak PSNI Utterly demolished by dissidents on the Garvaghy Road says a lot of future support by any Unionist politicians

Folk are being driven out of their homes in the West Bank. Their homes are being forcibly taken over by local religious fanatics, they’ve been subject to violence for years unprotected by police or politicians. It’s enforced apartheid.
No it’s not Palestine, it’s Londonderry.

Today, I was in Belfast for the unveiling of a mural to honour the memory of the victims of the October 7th massacre by Hamas.
Designed by the renowned muralist, Dee Craig, it was so moving to see the efforts he has gone to to honour their memory, and capture the scale of the evil perpetrated that day.
There were powerful words from @GRobinsonDUP, @StevenJaffe1, and leaders from the Unionist and Jewish communities, to a packed gathering of dear friends and allies of the Jewish community.
Credit to Dee, to Steven, to the Raven Social Club and countless others for their work to make this happen and ensure that three years on from that terrible day their memory is not forgotten.

Next phase of a large scale criminal investigation commences. Letters being sent to suspects to arrange police interviews. Almost certain that First Minister & other senior Sinn Fein ministers and members will be receiving these letters. Justice must be blind to political status.
Our officers have moved to the next phase of their investigation into the Drumcree/Garvaghy Road dispute.
A large scale investigation has been progressing, led by an experienced Senior Investigating Officer. Full details: orlo.uk/xdmbB

I am led to believe that these three gentlemen were part of a group of bowler hatted men, who it was insinuated by our First Minister, were intending silently to intimidate residents at 7.30 on a wet Sunday morning for 10 minutes along a public highway, some 100 yards from the nearest resident's house.

🎯“…if the Orange Order wanted to put thousands in Edgarstown tomorrow, in support of the Portadown District, it could. There are c. 40,000 members of the Orange Order in Northern Ireland alone. If loyalists wanted to gather in their thousands, they could as well. Instead, unionism has shown restraint, responsibility and reasonableness. Not seeking to escalate or make a tense situation worse. Confident in the law, sincere in wanting to find a resolution, but also not exploiting people for their own electoral ends."
Sinn Féin’s overreaction to Drumcree is a perfect example of Sun Tzu’s principle: “Appear strong when you are weak.”
The parading dispute has left the Republican party totally and utterly exposed.
A week ago the Parades Commission gave a painstakingly balanced, considered and sensitive determination. After weeks of deliberation, hearing and receiving submissions from all parties, they ruled in favour of the historic Drumcree procession m. When legally challenged, Orangemen secured their human rights in the courts.
What was Sinn Féin’s reaction? How did republicanism respond to the first ruling that went against them in 28 years? By blocking roads, openly defying the law and inciting a toxic display of hate and sectarianism against their fellow citizens. Above everything else, that is how Drumcree ’26 will be remembered.
Sure, it will all pay off for Sinn Féin in the short term. It will give them a boost in next year’s election. But the display of sectarian bile and brazen disregard for the rule of law won’t be easily forgotten and will undoubtedly come at a cost in the long term.
Sinn Féin’s outward reputation, which they take such care to cultivate, is in tatters. Most citizens, even those sympathetic to the sensitivities of Garvaghy residents, will be dismayed that the First Minister of Northern Ireland sees no problem with flagrantly flouting the law.
Further still, the Sinn Féin ‘charm offensive’ is now dead and buried. Buried beneath the rubble of a reckless barrage of demeaning and demonising language against the heritage and tradition of their unionist neighbours. All the honeyed words are but a distant memory, and the promise of a ‘New Ireland’ built on respect and equality is expired for at least a generation. Sinn Fein’s language, attitude and behaviour over Drumcree will serve as a constant reminder of what awaits unionists in any future constitutional settlement. It will be held up, again and again, as a continuous example of who Sinn Féin really are; a display of their authentic self, showing their true colours. This is what people mean when saying “the mask has slipped.”
Knowing all of this, Sinn Féin have chosen to put on a week of performative theatre. “Appearing strong,” as it were, by using every aspect of campaign infrastructure to project strength in the face of such a dead end.
They mobilised as many as they could from right across the island onto Garvaghy Road, holding rallies alongside all shades of nationalism. They produced multiple campaign-style videos and pulled every lever of influence they have available, such as US, EU and even UK political interventions. They even co-ordinated a ‘Protestant’ letter of support and rolled Kneecap into town. Yesterday, a series of celebrity endorsements (which weren’t quite endorsements) were also published.
It is all a bit of a fever dream. A carnival campaign of insecurity and intolerance inspired by a party desperate to shift attention away from their governmental incompetence onto a stoked up sectarian dogfight. In truth, the real residents of Garvaghy Road are being exploited by Sinn Féin. Any actual fear or concern about a procession has been hijacked and turned into a platform to launch Sinn Féin’s election campaign, with no actual regard for local impact or consequences.
By contrast, if the Orange Order wanted to put thousands in Edgarstown tomorrow, in support of the Portadown District, it could. There are c. 40,000 members of the Orange Order in Northern Ireland alone. If loyalists wanted to gather in their thousands, they could as well. Instead, unionism has shown restraint, responsibility and reasonableness. Not seeking to escalate or make a tense situation worse. Confident in the law, sincere in wanting to find a resolution, but also not exploiting people for their own electoral ends.
Sinn Fein have built a campaign based on division, and no matter how they may try to spin it, it won’t be easily forgotten.
