Here is a very engaging look at pie, eel and mash shops from @LondonStone

The @OBR_UK's new fiscal risks report, published today, is the most polite, spreadsheet-filled horror story you will ever read. It is the bureaucratic, non-partisan equivalent of grabbing our politicians by the lapels and screaming in their faces. It is very, very bad.

I’ve printed additional shop history ‘plaques’ for 52 addresses on Stoke Newington Church Street, which I’ll offer to businesses for FREE if they’d like to display them in their windows, at least throughout Christmas. Each plaque details the various and often diverse businesses that have traded at a particular address over the years.
Fifteen businesses have already joined the project: youtu.be/EofQeCVzEhU

Loved this video by @LondonStone - as well as book by @highamnews I’m still reading.
For 8 yrs in 1990s I was lucky enough to be councillor for Clerkenwell ward, including area around New River Head, so Amwell, River, Chadwell & Mylne Sts as well as Myddelton Sq were my beat!
This large and unusual pumping station was built in the mid-19thC to pump water from the New River at Stoke Newington into London. It is featured in my video about the history of the New River. You can watch the video here youtu.be/8BKhbftRoZ8

The man-made New River has been a feature of Stoke Newington since 1613. There were several bridges in Stoke Newington such as Paradise Bridge in Church St, Park Lane Bridge in Clissold Crescent and Newington Green Bridge in Green Lanes opposite Petherton Rd.
It used to run to Islington through Stoke Newington till it was shortened in 1946 to end in the East Reservoir. The small section opposite Clissold House is in fact a crescent pond, where the New River once was. I had the pleasure of contributing a small part to this informative video by @LondonStone.
The third of my London history documentaries is now live. The New River is over 400 years old and still supplying much of London's fresh water. You can watch the video here youtu.be/8BKhbftRoZ8 (And don't forget to like and subscribe if you enjoy it!).

Exciting week ahead as I get ready for interviews with @bwatson19 on her podcast, diving into the story of the campaign to save Clissold Park in the mid-1880s. Also, can't wait to join @LondonStone in his upcoming video, exploring the history of the New River in Clissold Park.
