I'm on Austrian public radio again, this time discussing PunCAT, a computer-assisted #translation tool for #humour. The show is available online at sound.orf.at/radio/oe1/sendu… and my segment starts at about 12 minutes and 35 seconds in.
Do #LandAcknowledgements accomplish anything or are they merely performative, possibly even hypocritical? Does formulaic repetition render them meaningless? I appreciated Chelsea Vowel's exploration of these and other questions: apihtawikosisan.com/2024/11/… #TruthAndReconciliation
A reminder that I'm still accepting queries from prospective PhD students for Fall 2025! If you're interested in #CompLing or #NLProc for humour, historical online corpora, or #Indigenous languages, please get in touch! clam.cs.umanitoba.ca/open-po…

LibreOffice doesn't do this. Enough said.
Heads up: Microsoft Office, like many companies in recent months, has slyly turned on an “opt-out” feature that scrapes your Word and Excel documents to train its internal AI systems. This setting is turned on by default, and you have to manually uncheck a box in order to opt out. If you are a writer who uses MS Word to write any proprietary content (blog posts, novels, or any work you intend to protect with copyright and/or sell), you’re going to want to turn this feature off immediately.
