Wow, wow, wow. I just left the National Press Club where Minister of Communications @AnikaWells spoke. She repeatedly and brazenly lied about the fake accounts, claiming they were only for enforcement, even though the legislation says in black and white that the eSafety Commissioner can use them in unlimited ways for "educational" and "promotional" purposes. One big moment came when a Politico reporter got up and said something about how mean people like @PaulineHansonOz were to eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman-Grant. Seriously. A supposed reporter was white-knighting for a government official during the official Q&A. The same reporter had come up to me before Wells' speech and asked if I had criticized Inman-Grant. Who needs government censors when you have Politico? After he asked his question, Wells showed the most emotion, describing online criticism of Inman-Grant as "abuse." She also talked about her own staff's supposed suffering. I kid you not. The mask dropped, and you could see what really upset her: people — including a sitting Senator — criticizing government officials. After gaslighting the audience about fake accounts, Wells repeatedly insisted the government wasn't trying to censor content. She said this after filling her speech with examples of content she claimed harmed people. You couldn't make it up. This legislation is the culmination of decades of progressives equating words with physical violence. Wells cynically compared her legislation to prevent psychological "harm" to various laws that protect people from physical harm, like seat belt laws. BTW, Wells never said what content it was that she thought caused eating disorders. Pictures of skinny women? Dietary advice? Who knows. Nobody asked. Another important moment came when Wells explicitly said Australia would be pursuing censorship alongside other nations, including the UK, France, and Spain—all countries where governments risk losing power to populists. I spoke with Julie Inman-Grant before the speech began and asked about the fake accounts. She insisted they were there just for enforcement, and when I asked why the law allowed them to be used for government propaganda, she said she might write an "enforcement memo," which, of course, would have no impact on the legislation. After her speech, I went up to Wells and asked if she was seriously saying the legislation didn't allow the government to use fake accounts for government propaganda. She refused to answer. A man who said he was from the National Press Club stepped in front of me and said I could interview her afterward. But that wasn't possible because they rushed her out the back to avoid any difficult questions. So there you have it. The pettiest people in Australia are seeking to silence citizens and their political opponents in the name of protecting children. These deeply intolerant and cynical people want to control what you can see and say online. And they're doing it with most of the media's support. Australia has reached a new low in its rapid descent into dogmatism, intolerance, and censorship.
The government today will introduce sweeping censorship that @AlboMP & @AnikaWells lie about. Below she claims the government wants to create a bot army of fake accounts for “research” when the bill clearly intends for them to be used in partisan warfare against fooled citizens.

Uniparty in action: Labor, the Coalition and the Greens just teamed up to block an inquiry into fair staffing. The Prime Minister personally sets staff numbers for everyone, including his critics. Labor: 507 advisers. More than 4 each. Albanese alone: 59. Liberals & Greens: 1.5 each. One Nation: only 0.8 We have an independent board that sets wages for politicians, why not the same for how many staff they get? The major parties stop fighting each other the moment someone challenges the cartel. Thanks to Senators Pocock, Babet and Payman for standing against it and supporting our inquiry.

Uniparty /ˈjuːnɪpɑːti/ noun. A cartel of political parties that pretend to oppose each other until their hold on power is threatened, at which point they close ranks to protect each other. Today, Labor, the Coalition and the Greens joined forces to block an inquiry of our bill for fair parliamentary staffing. The Prime Minister personally decides how many staff every senator and MP gets, including his political opponents. Labor has 507 advisers, more than 4 per politician. Albanese alone has 59. The Liberals have more than 100, or about 1.5 each. The Greens have 17, also about 1.5 each. One Nation has just five, only 0.8 staff per politician. The Prime Minister gets to decide the resources his opponents have to hold him accountable. Now the Liberals and the Greens are protecting Albanese’s powers by blocking an inquiry into the bill. Funny how quickly they stop fighting each other when someone tries to make the system fair. Thank you to Senator Pocock, Senator Babet and Senator Payman for supporting an inquiry and rejecting this corrupt staffing power. When the major parties stitch up votes to starve the crossbench and independents of resources, the Uniparty lives up to its name and undermines our democracy.

I guess Amy Shark was right when she said "Honestly, they (the NRL) just screw around artists, you guys (the AFL) actually understand artists, thank you for doing that."… .. imagine making her sing the line “I’d rather be dead..” in that situation 🤦🏼‍♂️FMD

WHO PAYS WHEN HE WALKS? Peter V’landys is walking out of Racing NSW on 30 November and straight into one of the biggest jobs in Australian sport. But before the farewell speeches, the headlines and the handshakes, there is one blunt question that needs an answer. Peter, your Racing NSW employment ends on 30 November. If your Supreme Court proceedings against Vicky Leonard, The Thoroughbred Report and Kit Gow continue beyond that date, who is responsible for your legal costs? That is not an unreasonable question. It does not ask anyone to prejudge the Supreme Court proceedings or take sides in the dispute. It asks something far simpler. Who carries the financial responsibility when V’landys is no longer employed by Racing NSW? If Racing NSW is currently meeting any of those legal costs, the board should explain the basis for that arrangement. If insurance is involved, say so. If there is a contractual arrangement that extends beyond his employment, explain it. And if Racing NSW has no responsibility once his employment ends, that should be made equally clear. Because 1 December changes the equation. V’landys will no longer be Racing NSW chief executive. If the proceedings continue, the obvious question is whether Racing NSW remains financially responsible or whether the costs become V’landys’ personal responsibility. Racing NSW or Peter V’landys personally? That question should not disappear beneath another career retrospective or another round of farewell coverage. It should be front and centre because the Racing NSW board has a responsibility to account for the organisation’s finances and governance arrangements. The media has a responsibility here too. This is not just a racing journalism issue. V’landys is moving into a senior position within the NRL, so sporting and mainstream media should be prepared to ask the same straightforward question. This is not about deciding the Supreme Court proceedings. That is for the court. It is about establishing who carries the financial burden while those proceedings continue. V’landys leaves Racing NSW on 30 November. If the Supreme Court proceedings are still running on 1 December, who pays the legal bill? That is the question. And before the cameras move on to his next chapter, someone should provide the answer.

What is happening at @racing_nsw? Within the space of 24 hours, the departing CEO lost a hearing related to his #Defamation case. As I then demonstrate, evidence also suggests, the Acting CEO lied to the @smh about the decision to discontinue their hearing against @RealMarkLatham
