From Perception to Action: How Do Robots Enter the Real World? Last month at YOLO Vision 2026, Paul Li, Head of R&D at LimX Dynamics, shared a central idea: vision should not operate as an isolated module. It must work together with decision-making, locomotion, and manipulation as part of an integrated robotic system. Lab performance is only the beginning. Reliable robots must enter real environments, adapt to changing lighting, spaces, and tasks, and continuously improve through a closed loop of deployment, feedback, and iteration. This raises some deceptively difficult engineering questions: How should sensors be positioned within a limited field of view? How can perception remain coordinated with whole-body movement? And how can an impressive demo become a repeatable, scalable real-world capability? As Ultralytics Founder Glenn Jocher noted during the discussion, the real test is applicability, usability, and scalability. Vision is only the beginning. Reliable action is the real test.
