Congress created the Medicare Improvement Fund for exactly what the name says: to IMPROVE Medicare. There was nearly $2 billion sitting in it. That money could have gone toward improving access to doctors, chronic-disease care, modernizing physician payments, lowering out-of-pocket costs or other long-term improvements to traditional Medicare. Instead, Trump is using most of it to send 20 million seniors a one-time $90 check — about a month before the midterm elections. The standard Medicare Part B premium is $202.90 a MONTH. So we’re spending nearly $2 billion from a fund created to improve Medicare to give people a check that doesn’t even cover half of one month’s premium. Then the money is gone. Medicare isn’t $2 billion better. Everyone just got $90.
