Libraries provide access to diverse books that provide windows, mirrors and sliding glass doors for our teens, better preparing them for the world beyond school. That's another reason we love libraries!

Parents absolutely get to decide what books their kids read or don’t, but their jurisdiction doesn’t extend to other people’s children. Our family (and many others) wants our kids/grandkids to read accurate history and the rich stories of ALL of humanity. Leave our kids alone.

A reminder, even though school is out in Texas(and elsewhere) your school boards are still meeting. Keep an eye on their posted agendas so things don't slip by. Defending intellectual freedom is a year round effort!

Journalists-This week is National Library Week. We encourage you to ask tough questions and dig deeper into those wanting to restrict content or close public libraries, talk to BIPOC and LGBTQ authors as well, talk to librarians on the ground and do a deeper dive. 1/2

Libraries are places where students have access to a diversity of ideas and to library staff who support their learning and literacy. Every student deserves that.

The climate of fear surrounding schools in numerous states from the #EdScare has gotten this extreme. Administrators imagine more danger reading books than banning them. Does not portend well for where public education is heading. #FreeTheBooks #FReadom

Youth deserve access to books that reflect their stories. "I don't want a kid to ever feel like they're not welcomed...we're now saying to a part of our population that is in our schools...'we're sorry, you don't exist.'" —Beverly D chron.com/news/houston-texas… #UniteAgainstBookBans

"While every individual has the right & responsibility to make decisions about what materials are suitable for themselves, no one and no group has the right to make rules restricting what other people read - this vital American freedom must be protected." bridgemi.com/guest-commentar…
If we are really preparing high school students for college and beyond, shouldn't they be able to make choices of what to read? This student thinks so. lancasteronline.com/opinion/…
