Exposing the Liberal Democrats' corrosive politics & contempt for democracy, contrary to the party's claimed values: https://xitter.cf/t.co/64ikOzyDW5 #LibDems

👀 Election fever has already spread beyond Westminster. Last week a Lib Dem councillor told HQ that he had tried to order some new Correx boards - the plastic placards used in election campaigns - only to be told the company could not fulfil the order for another month because it would be using all of November to complete a large order for the Labour Party. From today’s weekend long read with @whazell Story 👇 inews.co.uk/news/politics/in…

Oh. 👇
LIB DEM SILENCE: We have made every effort to engage all political parties on the issue of single-sex spaces in the NHS and to ensure they hear directly from female staff affected by the impact of gender identity policies in the workplace. We have met with representatives from the Labour Government, the Conservatives, and Reform. We have also repeatedly reached out to the @LibDems, particularly following their troubling treatment of gender-critical women at their recent conference. From @EdwardJDavey, @timfarron, and @HelenMorganMP, we have received only silence. Given that silence, we hoped the party's spokesperson for women and equalities, Marie Goldman MP, would want to hear the experiences of frontline NHS nurses involved in a landmark legal case. Again, silence. Women who believe that biological sex matters, that truth matters, and that every person deserves dignity and respect are hearing that message loud and clear

This isn’t leadership. The Lib Dems don’t have any ‘national partnerships’ with the Greens - they have local partnerships. Sir Ed’s words sound strong but don’t change anything
24
"National partnership", but all those council coalitions are fine? 😬🤦‍♂️ #LibDems
I am ruling out our party entering into a national partnership with any party that is committed to a dangerous and antisemitic policy like the Green Party’s. Here is my letter to the Jewish Leadership Council and the Board of Deputies of British Jews 👇

Lead contenders for Ed Davey's job don't want it, so Davey stumbles on despite MPs' gripes, contradicting basic liberal democratic principles with every policy statement, from urging the breaking of election pledges to imposing PR without a referendum & rejoining the EU. #LibDems

Ed Davey wants to force a PR electoral system on Britain without putting it to another referendum, as his "key demand" for a coalition with Labour. The LibDems now going full authoritarian with likely only minority support from voters. #LibDems #LiberalDemocrats
**Ed Davey fightback interview** :: ‘Sharp things’ were said in crunch meeting with Lib MPs on Tuesday :: ‘Absolutely’ he wants to lead the party into the next general election :: Rebel in chief Charlie Maynard won’t be stripped of whip despite criticism :: Social media cut through hasn’t been good enough and must improve :: Lib Dems on committees will be brought more into policy development :: Davey now explicitly targeting a return to government, ie another coalition :: He makes clear full proportional representation will be his key demand :: …and Davey argues it may *not* need a referendum; manifesto promise enough In short: Ed Davey’s pitch to rebels questioning his leadership is he’s experienced and wily enough a negotiator to lead them back into government (The unsaid bit: Most likely by striking a deal to share power with Andy Burnham if there’s a hung parliament) Full interview below Ed Davey: My MPs had sharp words for me but we’re united now thetimes.com/article/e536b47…

Yet the LibDems have kept Ed Davey in charge, when maybe a leadership election is the only newsworthy activity the party can come up with right now? #LibDems #LiberalDemocrats
It’s easy to forget the Liberal Democrats are the largest third party, by seats, in over a century. They won 72 seats in 2024, around nine times as many as Reform UK now holds. Yet Britons are four times more likely to have heard from Reform recently than from the Lib Dems, and seven times more likely to have seen Nigel Farage on social media than Ed Davey. In fact, Britons are more likely to say they’ve heard from Restore Britain in recent months than the Lib Dems. The Lib Dems are not cutting through, writes More in Common's @LukeTryl politicshome.com/opinion/art…

Slapdown for the Liberal Democrats and others calling for Labour to abandon its 'red lines' on a closer relationship with the EU; business secretary Jonathan Reynolds has just reinforced them. @afneil @peston @SophyRidgeSky @nicholaswatt @vicderbyshire @bbclaurak @BBCr4today
Labour has rejected calls to impose higher tariffs on Chinese electric cars as the price of a closer relationship with the EU. Jonathan Reynolds, the Business Secretary, said Britain would make trade decisions “based on the UK interest”. 🔗 telegraph.co.uk/business/202…

LibDems happy to stay in council coalitions with "Zionism is Racism" Greens. Despite condemning the policy. Self-serving much?
The Liberal Democrats have not so far changed their position on power sharing deals with the Green Party in local government A Lib Dem spokesman condemned the "Zionism is Racism" policy as "divisive, irresponsible and deeply insensitive" However they added that "decisions about local council arrangements are made entirely by local councillors on the ground, who know their communities best" They will likely come under increasing pressure over this now that Labour has pledged to end power-sharing deals with Green councils which back the motion The Lib Dems are in partnership with the Greens in 22 councils - more local authorities than Labour

Shocking indeed. Many of us have warned for a while that the party's activities are toxic, politically and even internally.
What an opening paragraph: 'The Lib Dems are attempting to evict a 71-year-old founding member of the party who is suffering from incurable cancer from her home to pay its legal bill in a dispute against her.' independent.co.uk/news/uk/po…

The Liberal Democrats are already in various power-sharing deals with Greens in councils across the country. Will the LibDems be withdrawing from those? #PMQs @afneil @BethRigby @BBCr4today @bbcnickrobinson @JustinOnWeb @vicderbyshire
PM rules out any deal with Greens as long as Zionism motion remains party policy #Pmqs

Lib Dem goal-hanging now at the stage where they're calling for things that have already happened! Fastest campaign win ever!

"A lack of obvious successor" seems to have been Ed Davey's saving grace. Not the most compelling of reasons to keep him on as party leader. It appears that none of the party's other MPs appears be up to, or wants, the job. #LibDems
A rumoured challenge to Ed Davey's leadership has fallen flat, with most Lib Dem MPs rallying behind him in a meeting on Tuesday night “MP after MP stood up to support Ed," an attendee told PolHome A lack of obvious successor and potential snap election are also seen as complicating factors when it comes to questions about a Lib Dem leadership change However, Davey remains under pressure to raise his game amid ongoing internal frustrations with the party's performance, report @zoenora6 & @harriet_symonds politicshome.com/news/articl…

Bizarre moment in Commons when Lib Dem MP Victoria Collins demands the creation of an AI Safety Institute when we already have one and it is genuinely world leading… (listen to multiple MPs muttering: "there is one!")

LibDem claims on the impact of Brexit "economically illiterate and verging on the moronic".
To generate £90 billion in tax revenue, you would need an additional £225 billion of GDP. So this MP is saying that UK GDP would have been roughly 8% higher, right now, if it wasn't for Brexit. Which is economically illiterate and verging on the moronic.

I just think that nothing says "Liberal" like expelling then pursuing through court a terminal ill founding member for standing up for women's legal rights.
