❗️ 57% of nurses surveyed are either thinking about leaving their job or actively planning to leave. ❗️ Nurses are exhausted, undervalued, and can not give the level of care to their patients they would like.
Replying to @theRCN
The findings show nursing staff routinely working unpaid overtime, delaying or not taking annual leave and feeling exhausted.  Respondents also expressed a growing sense of disillusionment after 18 months’ fighting the pandemic.

Just to be clear: Before Omicron we had: ~6k Hospitalised Covid Patients ~600 new admissions per day And we were not coping! Now we have: ~14k Hospitalised Covid Patients ~1,800 new admissions per day ~ 100k less staff And This Government has decided to do…nothing. Right?

🧵 If ever proof was needed that the Government is asleep at the wheel with this staff shortage crisis, the Vaccine Minister's non-answers this morning just about sum it up. /1
Vaccines Minister Maggie Throup doesn't know how many hospitals have critical incident. To Sky: “It is fast-moving... it would be wrong of me to say a number, because shortly there could be another one, or another Trust could actually say ‘no, we’re back on track now, we’re OK’”

❗️ Govt ignored warnings of Covid testing shortages. ❗️ Problem could have been avoided with better planning. ❗️ Pharmacies leader raised issue with @UKHSA in early December & asked for a plan but they never answered the question. inews.co.uk/news/health/covi…
“On a night shift last wk people were waiting for 9 hrs plus for ambulances & I waited 3 hrs to offload my patient to hospital. Hospitals are seriously strained with no beds,” Chaos unleashed on #NHS is likely to be worse in about two week’s time. inews.co.uk/news/nhs-covid-s…

The government has promised 7,000 HEPA filtration units to schools. There are 24,000 schools. Assume 14 classrooms on average. Two units are required per classroom. That is 672,000. So the government is meeting 1% of need. This policy works only as a measure of incompetence.

Vaccines Minister Maggie Throup on @SkyNews doesn’t have a clue how many Briton’s are in self isolation or how many NHS trusts have declared critical incidents. What is this Government basing its planning on??

Govt. plan for keeping schools open make little sense, and will probably ensure further spread of #COVID. 👇
Problem: mass infection -> staff/student sickness -> educational disruption Response: stop contact tracing in schools mandate attendance for children living with cases combine classes (staff shortages) Result: mass infection -> staff/student sickness -> educational disruption
Heart attack & stroke treatment is time critical. Treatments such as clot-busters have short windows for a therapeutic affect. Long delays for an ambulance to arrive & then sit in a queue outside A&E means many will not get the treatment they deserve. thetimes.co.uk/article/heart…

❗️ The @conservatives govt. has failed to protect the health of the people of this country, the NHS, and the economy. ❗️A triple whammy of fails that is building a legacy of long term illness, huge NHS waiting lists & a mountain of debt.

The first hospitals to get hammered by Omicron and it is being driven by a shortage of staff.
BREAKING: A very serious situation at hospitals across Lincolnshire tonight as @ULHT_News declares a 'critical incident' over "extreme and unprecedented" staff shortages. It says it is "unable to maintain safe staffing levels" leading to "compromised care" across its sites:

This is a very concerning development on top of what was already a crisis. I’ve requested a briefing as soon as possible, and will be keeping up the pressure on @sajidjavid to provide emergency funding for our ambulance service, and a short-term emergency strategy to save lives.
Replying to @ShaunLintern
In the West Midlands, @OFFICIALWMAS has warned patients are coming to severe harm because 999 calls are being 'stacked' and left waiting with no ambulance able to respond.

There are nowhere near enough lateral flow tests for Covid-19 in England to allow the government’s policy of their indiscriminate use. Access to tests must be prioritised and clear guidance given on their use. My article for The Guardian. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

If correct, this is damning. In short: it *looks like* the government is relying on just *one* distributor for all lateral flow test kits and they’re closed for chunks of time over the holiday! #WhereIsJohnson #whereIsJavid
I looked into *why* the supply of Covid-19 rapid tests has been so badly disrupted in the UK. TL;DR: All of the distribution is being handled by a single company which will be closed for 7-8+ days around Christmas and New Years' Eve and therefore shortages will persist. 🧵👇🏾
