So BBC Three, Scotland and R4 Extra are going. We are watching the death by a thousand cuts of a great British institution. From major sporting events, to national celebrations, the BBC has a unique ability to bring the country together. But, successive Governments have left our BBC in a state of managed decline. @LibDems are calling for a permanent charter to end this cyclical uncertainty hanging over the BBC’s future and protect it for generations to come. Once the BBC is gone, it is gone for good. It's time we made the choice to save it.

Thank you for your service to our party and for the part you’ve played in keeping the @LibDems flame alive in Wales, @DoddsJane. I know you’ll continue to be a powerful voice for your constituents in the Senedd.
Tonight Jane Dodds MS has announced she is standing down as Welsh Liberal Democrat Leader after 9 years in the role. On behalf of the whole party - Diolch yn fawr, Jane! 🧡

1/2 - I want to thank Jane for everything she has done as Leader of our party. She has led us through some incredibly difficult years with determination and resilience, helping to rebuild our party both at Westminster and locally.

I'm so grateful to Jane for her 9 years' service as Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats. She secured big wins on social care, childcare, bus services and protecting rivers. I know she'll continue to be a tireless champion for Liberalism and the people of Wales. Diolch Jane!

The neglect of care homes during Covid was devastating. Warnings about testing and PPE were ignored, putting vulnerable residents and staff at risk. At the very least, an apology is owed to those impacted.

Veterans deserve stronger protections. Investigations should only be reopened with material new evidence and historic incidents shouldn't be judged by laws that didn't exist at the time. The Government must get this right.

Looks like a fascinating title. Unlike Liz, I’m not one for rash financial decisions, so I’ll wait until it’s in the local Oxfam to buy a copy - probably well within 49 days… And then I’ll give it to @griffitha, who we know is a big fan.

Cutting £2bn from Army equipment at a time like this is madness. We've put forward a plan to raise £20bn through Defence Bonds to help Britain rearm. The Government needs to find the money to rebuild our Armed Forces, not cut the equipment they rely on.
Labour has cut £2bn from front-line Army equipment as John Healey tries to fill a defence spending black hole in his first Budget. The Ministry of Defence has dropped plans to develop three new battlefield vehicles, including one that would have been capable of recovering Britain’s Boxer armoured vehicles if they were damaged in combat. 🔗 telegraph.co.uk/politics/202…

I am ruling out our party entering into a national partnership with any party that is committed to a dangerous and antisemitic policy like the Green Party’s. Here is my letter to the Jewish Leadership Council and the Board of Deputies of British Jews 👇

What do we Lib Dems want to see in next week's Budget? Cuts to energy, travel and hospitality costs - giving households the breathing space they need.

🧵 Our @LibDems plans would put £350 back in your pocket. The government should deliver a breathing space Budget next week, to slash your energy bills, petrol and public transport prices, and costs for struggling high street hospitality businesses over the next year and a half.

Families are facing another cost-of-living squeeze. Our £14bn emergency package would cut energy and transport costs and support struggling high streets. It's time to put money back into people's pockets. @libdemdaisy

Frequent flyers get air miles. Regular train passengers get nothing back. Caroline Pidgeon is calling for rail miles to reward loyal passengers, and her proposal to the Railways Bill is in the Lords today. @CarolinePidgeon

Everyone should be able to enjoy life’s little pleasures, not just scrape by. Our Breathing Space Budget would save households £350 on average, cutting the cost of energy, travel and going out. It’s time to give families the breathing space they deserve.

They say imitation is the best form of flattery, so good that the government has embraced this Lib Dem policy. They can be similarly enlightened by listening to us on the need for tough action on illegal use of e-bikes, and for stronger service standards on public transport.
🚨 NEW: The Government has announced headphone dodgers on trains will face fines of up to £1,000 as a nationwide campaign launches today

Kemi Badenoch says anyone who wants to stand as a Conservative candidate at the next election must support her plan to withdraw from the ECHR. Last week, a number of her MPs didn’t vote for her flagship policy. Will she withdraw the whip?

The sad truth is that children and young people, their needs and concerns have become a low priority for successive governments. We need to start putting young people front and centre of our policy decisions and see them as an investment, not a cost line in government budgets.
