Today is my last day as @KUER’s southern Utah and environmental reporter. I’ve so enjoyed the last 2+ years! I don’t really have words to describe it all, so here are some of my fav pics of the desert I loved reporting in (plus me doing radio stuff irl).

The UT Legislative Natural Resources committee hearing today was mostly on decarbonization. The main speaker was from the @TPPF and seems to be working with lawmakers on the state’s energy policy. @RepEWeight and @BennionGay released a statement about the meeting. #utpol

Washington County Commissioner Victor Iverson spoke strongly in favor of Dixie at the #utleg. The commission passed a res. last week in support. Iverson has an interesting relationship with Dixie though.. & last year he shared different feelings. Let me fill y'all in! #utpol

Kane County residents voted down a prop. that would have set up a transit authority to oversee an electric bus system connecting people to the east side of @ZionNPS. Now, those who backed it are trying to figure out what this means for the big plans that are already in motion.

But some good news! Even though soil moisture hit a historic low earlier this year, monsoonal moisture helped a lot. If soil moisture stays high, we could be in better shape when it comes to runoff, which is what will help refill UT's reservoirs.

As for the drought, @UtahDNR executive director says despite the rain we got this summer, we're still not where we need to be in terms of water. This screenshot from his presentation is outdated, but currently 88% of state is in exceptional/extreme drought (dark red/red).
