"It felt as if a rope was running from the Antarctic ice in front of the ship to the coastal waterways of Louisiana so far away — it felt like what we've done, as humans, to accelerate climate change has pulled that rope taught."

Today is my last day as @KUER’s southern Utah and environmental reporter. I’ve so enjoyed the last 2+ years! I don’t really have words to describe it all, so here are some of my fav pics of the desert I loved reporting in (plus me doing radio stuff irl).
Thank you to the amazing team — including those who have already left the station. Public radio is such a special thing and you all have shown me that. If you ever need someone to talk about RHOSLC, I’m ready.
Also I’m v excited to see what @ElleCNews does now with this beat!
It was fun doing a park audiopostcard for one of my last stories! You can listen to me out of breath at Coral Pink Sand Dunes: kuer.org/sports-recreation/2…

Today @UDOTTRAFFIC picked a gondola to address Little Cottonwood Canyon traffic probs, but it's going to take years to actually happen.
In the meantime, the canyon will get an enhanced bus system & other improvements.
Lots of feelings about the gondola!

Opponents say it's a huge burden (estimated at $550 million) for the public, especially since it'll mainly serve private resorts. Plus they say it won't actually fix the traffic probs.
But the phased plans could be a silver lining, "Now it's in our hands to change our behavior.”
The GM of @AltaSkiArea said they'll fund where gondola lands, but didn't say they'd help w/ overall project.
As for the criticism it's only for resorts?
"It's really a service for the public ... It's no different than someone saying, I want to use Trax to go to the Jazz game."

How big of a concern is it? @SLCo_Council members Dea Theodore and Richard Snelgrove feel it’s major, but they seem to be the only ones. buff.ly/3QUnRiW

The state of Utah is suing the Biden administration over its restoration of the original boundaries of two large national monuments — Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante.
Utah officials say Biden overstepped his authority. n.pr/3dWKXXG

When Biden reversed Trump's cuts to the monuments last year, Utah leaders signaled this was their plan: kuer.org/health-science-envi…
Earlier this year the Legislature approved a land exchange in Bears Ears. At the time, a state official said this wouldn't impact the state's pursuit of a lawsuit. But now that it's been filed, does this mean anything for the swap? If you know, lmk!
