This #WorldRhinoDay, we celebrate the resilience of one of Africa’s most iconic species—the rhinoceros—while recognizing the ongoing challenges in their conservation. African rhino populations have remarkably recovered since the early 2000s, yet the battle is far from over. Though poaching rates have declined since their peak in 2015, threats such as habitat loss, fragmentation, and the high cost of protection persist. The 2024 State of Rhino report highlights that the white rhino population is 17,464, while the critically endangered black rhino is 6,421. However, efforts across Africa are making a difference. In Kenya, black rhino populations have rebounded thanks to the collaborative efforts of the government, communities, private sector, and NGOs like @AWF_Official. Today, we reflect on the progress and look forward to a future where rhinos thrive, supported by secure habitats and #communities invested in their protection.
