NEW: Football fans will be allowed to drink in the stands for the first time in 40 years under Andy Burnham’s bid to rip up the historic booze ban. The PM is looking at repealing the controversial 1980s law prohibiting alcohol being slugged within sight of the pitch. He said it was unfair that football supporters were “singled out” for such curbs and that there was a "case to remove that discrimination". But it risks teeing up a showdown with cops who have long feared it would only fuel outbursts of hooliganism at matches - and are already criticising the move.
