Second Special Session of my career has been called for this Friday. I am working hard to understand the potential and the concerns of bringing steel manufacturing to SE Iowa, and I look forward to scrutinizing the details of the package being proposed.

We have responsibilities as a part of a living world, and they always includes the animals with whom we share water, land, and air (whether we notice them or not!) I'm proud that @humaneactfund has endorsed my '26 reelection! #ConsiderCompassion

Every Iowan should be able to count on clean, safe water. That’s why Iowa House Democrats introduced the Iowa Healthy Water Act this year and will continue pushing for policies that strengthen water quality across our state.

Clarification- in my newsletter, I made a mistake in my numbers- $42,525,000 of the $94.5 million jail bond funds are expected to be for the Sheriff's Office portion of the project. 55% of the space, but 45% of the budget.

Yesterday I reached out to @LocalProgress for some help with housing issues, did some scheduling, and replied to staff and constituent communications. I had a great time at @LevinforIowa's fundraiser at the end of the day. – at University Heights, IA

Iowa banned basic income even when the evidence unequivocally showed that it helped people secure jobs, start businesses, and keep food on the table. 7 Republicans voted against the ban -- a clear display of cross-partisan support. Incredibly thoughtfully written piece by Iowa State Rep. @LevinforIowa: "When debating the bill to ban guaranteed income before it had a chance to be tested, some of my colleagues claimed people would stop working. Not only do the UpLift pilot results prove them wrong, but the results show an unfortunately harsh reality: getting and keeping a good job costs money. Training and certification costs money, transportation to work costs money, professional clothes for an interview cost money — and taking a day off from one job to interview for a better one costs more than many Iowans can risk. Guaranteed income helped working families close that gap — and keep food on the table and heat in the home in the process." "One UpLift participant described how she and her husband even used the funds to start businesses that meet local neighbors’ needs. “It’s not just about a single household. When I look at what we were able to do, we were able to fund two businesses, we were able to help our children. So it’s not just our household, but we have reached our community.” "There is bipartisan support for this approach. Seven of my Republican colleagues joined Democrats in voting against the ban." "It’s not just the morally right thing to do, it’s how we save Iowa’s future — by investing in the hardworking, innovative people who make this their home." thegazette.com/opinion/lawma…

Shortage of IA med providers will NOT be solved by retrofitting loan repayment- great/not the solution. "I'm embarrassed to be working in Iowa." Laws and legislators that respect and value experts. A clean, healthy environment. Safe staffing levels. MEDICAID REIMBURSEMENT.

I've heard from Rep. Jason Gearhart that there was information clarifying that this permit will not be to export Iowa water out of state. I was unable to attend the public meeting in the fall and didn't find any info reported. I look forward to learning more at the 9th.
