@northernassist mobility scooter users can now travel on Northumberland Line ,after I held them to account + collaborated on new policy, but cannot link to metro services

29x5-car Adessia Stream battery-electric units featuring level boarding have been ordered by TransPennine Express. Alstom will build them in Derby with construction beginning in 2028.

A fleet of 29 new battery-electric Alstom Adessia Stream units have been ordered for @TPExpressTrains & will be built at Derby. They will be built from 2028, enter service in 2034 and be leased from Rock Rail to TPE. They will have step-free boarding and support the TRU upgrades

We were discussing how we get from SE London to Heathrow with two suitcases, a guide dog and a wheelchair with a Triride. Imagine, if Southeastern had level boarding I could get to Heathrow step-free from SE London in a reasonable time without using assistance or a taxi. Thameslink and the Elizabeth Line are already step-free from London Bridge.

Right now, @transportgovuk's new 250m spec for the HS2 fleet means tens of millions extra on a Washwood Heath remodelling, hundreds of millions extra on the contract with Hitachi/Alstom and more besides.
Yet the Campaign has heard nothing from @Heidi_Labour. Unacceptable.
Today, the Campaign has published an open letter to @Heidi_Labour regarding the news that the HS2 train fleet contract is to be reviewed.
The opportunity to apply 8 years of learning on accessibility since the trains were originally specified MUST be taken.

Adessia is a train with accessibility built in, enabling unassisted boarding at 85% of existing station platforms due to level boarding at every door along the full length of the train – reducing the additional investment needed to adapt platform heights.

In the House of Lords debate on the railway bill yesterday, @SalBrinton highlighted her experience with @Se_Railway and @LNER and the wait for staff to put a ramp on a train. We seriously need level boarding in the metro area and everywhere else. It is all so time-consuming, and calling a railway MD at 1am to get off a train cannot be a solution for everyone. 🤣
