The Refugee Convention was born from the lessons of history.
75 years later, it continues to save lives, protect people, and remind us that solidarity remains one of our strongest tools.

Keeping the promise of the Refugee Convention is not UNHCR’s responsibility alone. It belongs to all of us.
Proud to launch #ThePromise, bringing together voices to mark the Convention’s 75th anniversary and reaffirm our shared commitment to protect refugees and the right to seek safety.

Drawing on his own experience of forced displacement, Mustafa reflects on the importance of refugee protection, the risks of weakening asylum systems, and why refugee rights must continue to be defended in an increasingly challenging global context.

R-SEAT’s latest Reflection Note, “Beyond Presence: Who Shapes Decisions in Global Refugee Governance?”, highlights why refugee-led organizations (RLOs) and actors with lived experience are essential partners, not just stakeholders.
RLOs systematic participation strengthens program relevance, efficiency, and sustainability, especially in restrictive funding environments where every resource must be used strategically.
