'A Pragmatist Philosophy of Life in Ortega y Gasset by John T. Graham. Core Concepts of Ortega y Gasset's Philosophy"I live therefore I think": José Ortega y Gasset moved away from Descartes' classic cogito, ergo sum ("I think, therefore I am") to place human life itself as the radical, fundamental reality. Philosophy of Life: His system centers on the concrete reality of human existence, viewing life not as a static thing, but as an ongoing task or action we must construct in interaction with our circumstances (circunstancias). Perspectivism: Reality can only be understood from a specific point of view or perspective; truth is multifaceted rather than absolute. Historical Beings: Humans do not have a fixed nature; instead, we have a history. Understanding our past is vital to navigating the present and avoiding societal crises.'

From Dawn to Decadence: Jacques Barzun: 'The thought occurs that in the high tide of demotics—the second half of the century—it was hard to find a figure of the intellectual world to put side by side with those singled out earlier. One must go back to the first half for a thinker of comparable range and power: the obvious one is Ortega y Gasset, the author of The Revolt of the Masses and numerous other philosophical studies that are also contributions to cultural history. [The book to begin with is The Modern Theme^ Ortega y Gasset died at mid-century, but in his treatment of the arts, education, psychology, and social theory, this aptest observer of his period delineated the leading features of the next. That he was not much cited or quoted after his death does not amount to a settled judgment upon him. Sooner or later he will have to be heard as a witness— and not alone. To know the whole century adequately, historians will have to listen to the words of several others who also belong to its formative time. To cite only three Americans: John Jay Chapman, Albert Jay Nock, and Leo Stein.'

Best of all is the medieval model where nurses (religious sisters) owned the hospitals 🙌
Imagine a chef employed at a restaurant that charges $100 for a hamburger. One day he gets sick of his institution ripping off customers, so he goes across the street and opens a shop with $5 hamburgers. Now the hamburger loving people are better off. Competition drives down prices and increases quality. The original restaurant, angry over the lost business, gets a law passed that bans chefs from owning restaurants. Everyone would recognize this as a corrupt, protectionist law. And yet, in healthcare, with skyrocketing costs, we still outlaw physician owned hospitals.

Interesting that last night on the broadcast they said Fred Warner called Halton, "baby Donald". That was a thing I used a number of times, after watching his tape.
Replying to @LeoRWong
You can tell he's very much modeled his game after Donald. Same exact stance where he'll sit back over his heels to allow him yo get up and lateral quickly. Donald had insane power for his size and speed. It's why he was a first rounder.

Not sure what objection is being objected to. A baptismal font would be out of place in the sanctuary.
Replying to @fr_faulkner
Not a good-faith objection. We're talking about symbolism, tradition, and subtleties of emphasis and association. You could put the baptismal font there too and nobody would be "missing what happened at the altar" either.

My position for 30 years now:
“The tabernacle competes with the altar of sacrifice for the eye’s attention” My chief dude in Christ, literally nobody has ever said “I missed what happened at the altar. Too busy being laser-focused on the tabernacle.”

"The best possible sort of system into which to weave an object, mentally, is a RATIONAL system, or what is called a 'science'. Place the thing in its pigeon-hole in a classificatory series; explain it logically by its causes, and deduce from it its necessary effects; find out of what natural law it is an instance, and you then know it in the best of all possible ways. A 'science' is thus the greatest of labor-saving contrivances."―William James, "Memory" from Talks to Teachers on Psychology.

Here's a Challenge -- Can you find the error? Philately, the study and collection of postage stamps, has long been one of my interests. Apparently, young veterans are taking up the hobby. Here's an autograph from COL Beckwith on a cover related to Operation EAGLE CLAW. In philately, we call it a "cover." This one is technically a hand-back cover because you hand it to a mail clerk and they hand it back, so it never enters the mail stream. I shared this photo recently with an interviewer from "Scott Stamp Monthly." COL Beckwith signed it a few months after EAGLE CLAW when he was still Commander. He didn't often do autographs. He did this for me. Where is the error on the cover?

I had a breakthrough with classical music when I understood that 1) when most great pieces were composed they were a new sound 2) that new sound corresponded to changes is society 3) that new sound was tied with technological development. That’s when I finally learned to understand classical music

The difference is that for those who know art, you know a Rothko when you see it. This is what a lot of conservatives and traditionalists don’t understand about art. Technique and skill can be a factor with iconic art, but they are not the defining characteristic. At its core, great artists do something new. New is harder to do than people think. Young artists often work by copying what has done before, and many mediocre artists do well by copying the past. The great artists create something new that hasn’t been seen before. This will be incredibly important in the age of Ai. The barrier to entry for design and implementation will be easier in terms of skill and technique. However, that won’t destroy the genius of an artist that creates something new in an unexpected way. This is behind a lot of criticism of “Ai slop.” Literally anyone can create a video or a piece of visual art or writing and it will be pretty good, but also painfully mediocre. The next great artists will use Ai and do something new.

No swamp games. If the Senate wants to skip town without passing the SAVE America Act, Americans deserve a standalone vote to see which Senators don’t think keeping non-citizens off the voter rolls is important enough to stay and fight for. Thank you, Senator Lee.
It’s not lost on me that this agreement may have been designed to make it more difficult for me and others to force a vote on whether to adjourn or recess. Regardless, I’m not on board with that plan—not with all that’s at stake and all that remains undone. For that reason, I have formally objected to the time agreement, contingent on scheduling a roll call vote (at 51) as to the part of the agreement that deals with adjournment with pro formas. We are United States senators. It is entirely reasonable to ask for a vote on this.

Here’s how to get the SAVE America Act passed by the Senate and in to the President’s desk: 1. House passes Reconciliation 3.0 with the SAVE America Act in the bill along with funding for states to pay for enhanced REAL ID that says “CITIZEN” on the drivers license. Send the bill to Senate 2. When Senate parliamentarian rules that under the Byrd Rule, that provision is policy rather than funding, so it has to have 60 votes. 3. Sen Thune or any Senator can appeal the ruling of the chair. Takes a simple majority. 51 votes. Put VP Vance in the chair. The SAA stays in reconciliation. 4. Reconciliation passes with SAVE America Act. 5. @realDonaldTrump signs the bill to celebrate the 250th birthday of American independence. Nuke the Byrd Rule. Named after Robert Byrd, former Dem Senate Majority Leader. Member of the Ku Klux Klan. Nuke the KKK Rule God Bless America🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 @SpeakerJohnson @BasedMikeLee @chiproytx @seanmdav @MZHemingway @EIwatchdogs @seanspicer @EricLDaugh @DC_Draino @StephenM @gc22gc @Bannons_WarRoom

The reconciliation version is optional, not mandatory. Due to Senate Byrd Rule limits, it can only provide federal funding/grants that incentivize states to adopt proof-of-citizenship registration and voter ID rules. States can decline the money and keep current systems. The full standalone SAVE America Act would mandate it nationwide for federal elections, but that cannot pass via reconciliation.
