i was hoping that the oppenheimer movie would inspire a generation of kids to be physicists but it really missed the mark on that. let's get that movie made! (i think the social network managed to do this for startup founders.)

Scams like this are already happening today. It's worth talking to the less tech-savvy people in your life about this risk
Gave my parents the talk about how one day a robot may call them on the phone using my voice, answering their questions in real time, explaining with desperation that it's stuck on a highway near Des Moines & it lost its wallet & needs them to wire $850 to the following address

a thing i have learned the hard way, multiple times, over the last few years, is that if you are going to engage in a role where your actions have a direct, outsized impact on a large set of people, you need to be prepared for their reactions to have an outsized impact on you

In the “Japan does a better job at hotels” and “Japan does a better job at taking children seriously”, for ~$12 our hotel had a 20 minute cooking class for children where they got dressed up as patisserie chefs and, under the instruction of a staffer, made themselves dessert.

I have ranted about the absurdity of the term "full stack engineer" (I mean, show me the web dev who also writes their own device drivers 🙄) but I'd like to recant. Annoying it may be, but it's the term we've got to describe the most significant shift in eng roles since devops.

Ugh, I hate waking up and seeing my tweet has left my little universe, & now all these sad little men want to center themselves. Bffr, everyone expects you to be in cybersecurity. NO one expects it to ME, so STFU! Shoutout to the men who acknowledged & showed supported 💛
Let's be really fucking CLEAR!

tbh "europoor" is embarrassing cope like, yes, top earners make less in Europe. But I'm not sure how much you can sneer when Europeans live several years longer, have better WLB, have access to quality food and in many respects simply lead better lives

Was walking around Nakameguro today in an unfamiliar path and found a surprisingly nice thing, in a genre where Japan has a will to have nice things, and will share it minus the identifying information (for social reasons):

This is a reminder that if you work in a country with very strong worker protection laws, and your employer announces mass layoffs, there is a fair chance you are protected. Before signing anything: pay for an employment lawyer to get their opinion. Very relevant in Berlin now.

To give you a sense of how crazy layoffs have been, I know someone in HR who was laid off 5 months ago, rehired 2 months ago, and now administers layoff paperwork for people laid off last week 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠
