This is the Abu Dhabi equivalent of buying Manchester City to launder their reputation.
The Tareen fortune is built on the misery and accelerated poverty of tens of thousands of farmers if not more.
I am no one to hold Tareen at fault for the sins of his elder. But I went to the American school and I saw what illegitimately earned money did to an entire generation of elites.
If you want to limit those generational effects you need to invest back in the communities you affected. And invest so much money that you feel the pain. Like half of your fortune. Open a fintech that gives farmers loans as inputs using your money and helps them grade their crops and bring them to the right markets and do knowledge transfers to increase yield and productivity. The difference in joy is real. And it’s worth it.
Or you can spend a joyless eternity doing this performative crap.
After launching the Tareen Oxford Scholarship, people suggested funding undergrads too. So we reached out to LUMS to be make it happen.
Every year, we will fully fund six undergraduate students from South Punjab, three young women and three young men.
Investing in people is the best investment. More to come IA.

Fakhar maybe does not play the T20 WC in 2028 so playing him and adjusting the line up to fit him in looks weird.
But with only 9 ODIs as of now leading up to the WC, it makes sense to maximize his gametime by playing him in bilateral T20Is.

Pakistan's problem is that all of their all rounders are spinners and all of their best bowlers are also spinners.
They haven't taken care or developed their fast bowlers so now they cannot justify fielding them over their spinners especially on tracks like these.

Vietnam 4-2 Pakistan
Pakistan's FIFA ASEAN Cup campaign ends and I think the team gave us more than most expected.
Ranked 198th, Pakistan faced Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam, all higher ranked & stronger opponents.
Thailand showed us the gap. But coming from 0-2 down to draw 2-2 with Philippines, and then scoring twice against 99th ranked Vietnam! that’s something to appreciate.
One point, four goals and plenty of fight in Pakistan’s first FIFA tournament.
A long way to go, but also plenty to build on. Proud of the boys.

And this is precisely why politicians should leave sports to people who understand it.
Pakistan, ranked 198th, came back from 0-2 deficit to draw 2-2 vs Philippines, a team 63 places above them, This is Pakistan's first ever FIFA tournament. It was Pakistan's first point and first goals in a FIFA tournament.

The squad Pakistan has sent to the Asian Games is probably a better T20I team than their usual first-choice T20I XI.

Zohran Mamdani: “DoorDash had underpaid more than 260K delivery workers across New York City. Today, after years of corporate greed and impunity, we are holding DoorDash to account. I am proud to announce that DoorDash will pay more than $131M, the largest settlement for food delivery workers ever secured in American municipal history and a landmark win for those who have been mistreated and abused for years with nowhere to turn”

In the past months I've been on a mission to make Pakistan's public data more useable through building open source databases and visualisations.
Today I'm launching Adaad (اعداد), a monthly data journal on Pakistan. Adaad is where those datasets become arguments and insights.
Everything here is made to be taken. The prose, the charts and the cleaned datasets are published under a Creative Commons licence (CC BY 4.0). Translate a piece for an Urdu newspaper. Rebuild a chart for a classroom. Rerun the analysis and publish your disagreement. All we ask is a line of credit and a link to the source.
Adaad also publishes contributors. If you have a question the data can answer — or data that raises a question — pitch it to [email protected]. For more details on what is required for a pitch, please see the about section.
Happy Independence Day — the struggle continues!

Azan Awais was picked on the back of 2,673 first-class runs at 48.6 across two domestic seasons, which is more than any other batter in Pakistan managed in that period.
He is 21 years old and made his Test debut three months ago. This was his first tour of England, in conditions that probably did not suit his batting style, in a side that was bowled out for 110 and 171. He kept standing there, and that is the thing worth saying about him.
Stuart Broad said it better than I can. "Azan Awais has played beautifully. He's been very calm, out there right from the start when Pakistan were 0-2." And: "Played some eye-catching shots, some fantastic cover drives."
The tour was hard, the numbers are modest, and he will know that better than anyone. But he fought, and on a trip where not much went right, that counts for something.

This is one of those matches where we will score a 150-ish, and then we england will be something like 26-3, so some of us will start thinking "oh but can we?" and there will be a moment of hope, but we will not. and in hindsight it will be very obvious that we couldn't have.

This is how the PCB makes sure their players are mentally diminished.
Saim Ayub just scored a match winning century at the CPL. He was JUST finding some of the magic he had before.
The PCB parachutes him into a dead rubber test where he plucks a pair.

Not content with chipping away at Pakistan cricket block by block, the PCB took a match to the whole thing and set it alight yesterday.
Thoughts on what wasn't so much a desperate attempt at a quick fix as it was a performance howl of rage.
