The mere repetition of a behavior causes our nervous system to believe that the specific actions involved, and the context in which they are embedded are important, for better or for worse. Choose what you repeat wisely.

āNeurons that fire together wire togetherā are the words of Dr Carla Shatz @StanfordMed @Stanford (not the words of Donald Hebb as is commonly claimed). It describes the central feature of neuroplasticity, which is the nervous systemās ability to change in response to experience.

The scientific study of mindsets does not say that you can delude yourself into thinking/making stress feel good. It does reveal that if you adopt the āstress grows me & improves my performance over timeā that it will do just that. See the amazing work of @AliaCrum @StanfordMed

Among the best things about our nervous system are that (in contrast to other organs of our body):
1) It controls our thoughts, feelings and actions.
2) It can rewire & learn ā indeed for the better, if the desire to do so is strong enough.

3 ideas to start your year:
1) You don't rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.
2) Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.
3) Decide the type of person you want to be. Prove it to yourself with small wins.

The (biological) essence of maturity is autonomic control. When we see ourselves or others getting triggered, losing control emotionally or physically, itās a clear sign of regression. Learn autonomic control & demand it of those in positions of power.

We are told ābeing presentā is the goal but the clinical & scientific data indicate that too much interoceptive awareness (of ones internal state) can exacerbate anxiety & depression. The goal is to be able to dynamically shift & split interoception to exteroception, at will.
