I love the depiction of skilful multi-tasking in this tapestry (1470-80, made in Switzerland) @burrellcollect. It reminds me of women crofters in Applecross!

Squalls rushing their patterns over Lochan an t- Sagairt (Lochs of the Priest) in Applecross earlier today. The first time I’ve walked the footpath since completing my practice-based PhD on this landscape.. Meeting it anew. Letting go.

Thank you to Airigh Drishaig, and to all the communities, pathways & patchy woodlands of Applecross and Glasgow who have collaborated in these emergent stories of reciprocal restoration.

It’s been an amazing week of autumn activities for Torgarve Community Woodland @ApplecrossACC. Bountiful hazelnut collection for the tree nursery, a fun woodland activity trail and a harvest festival topped off by a glorious sunset.

Fantastic finish to #communitywoods2022 with site visit to Dun Coillich admiring natural regen & very cool Kazuba compost loo. Thanks @CommunityWoods for a great weekend bringing these all projects together. Looking forward to taking inspirations to Torgarve @ApplecrossACC

Next up was tending to these babies: sessile oak and hazel gathered from seed around Applecross and grown in the community tree nursery. The future forest at our fingertips! We’ll be holding seed collecting & storytelling events this October half term!

First activities include the community build of a timber-frame shelter, led by George and crafted from spruce felled from the site. Mortise and tenon joints in the making…

Strandline curiosity of today: a gorgeous Lesser Spotted Cat Shark, or dog fish. Hollow & dry, inhabited by beetles. Gently curved features. Rough sandpaper skin with tiny tooth-shaped bristles that gave this being its hydrodynamic powers. An honor to touch..

Spring tides have gifted these shores with strandlines of foxgloves, and spring onions! A whole bunch, washed up individually.. still fresh. Sea travelers, landed.
