Kotek: “Oregon is a state that fights for its values. I blocked President Trump’s National Guard deployment, defended SNAP, protected reproductive rights, and secured abortion medication… We aren’t done yet, and we won’t back down.”
Reality for a lot of Oregonians: Families priced out, businesses struggling with costs and regs, Portland still wrestling with disorder that spills over, and rural communities feeling the squeeze from policies cooked up in the same bubble.
Those “values” sound great on a graphic.
The results on the ground? Not so much for the people actually trying to live, work, and raise kids here.

If you were never aware of the timelines-pay attention.
So let’s look at the facts because in my opinion the state is negligent and deserves to be held accountable.
This is a rough, timeline pertinent road map and you can make your mind up from there.
May 25, 2020: George Floyd encounters police and subsequently dies.
May 26,2020: riots described by the media as “mostly peaceful protests” begin.
May 29-31, 2020: Portland SPECIFICALLY endures major protests and civil unrest. This is where the fuse is lit.
June 4, 2020: Portland Public Schools Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero announces he’s discontinuing the regular presence of school resource officers. Mayor Ted Wheeler immediately follows, pulls SROs from PPS plus David Douglas and Parkrose, and redirects roughly $1 million from the program. This came in the middle of George Floyds protest with BLM demands to remove police from schools. 4J in Lane County followed suite by December. Springfield Public Schools kept their partnership in place.
2021 – Senate Bill 554 Kate Brown signs and allows schools and universities to adopt policies stripping the CHL affirmative defense so even licensed carriers could be barred from school grounds.
December 2021: Bend-La Pine Schools adopted a campus ban in December 2021.
2022: Measure 114-aims for a permit to purchase and aims to assignmagazine limits. This is still currently unresolved and if Kotek is re-elected she will tackle this by March of 2027.
2022–2024: Early adoption of stripping the CHL affirmative defense was limited (roughly 13% of districts by mid-2022). By 2024, dozens of districts—including Portland, Beaverton, Reynolds, Tigard-Tualatin, and others—had enacted bans covering a substantial share of students. Many rural districts did not.
2025 – Senate Bill 243 (Community Safety Firearms Act): Signed by Gov. Tina Kotek. Further expands restrictions.
State law actually never required SRO’s.
In fact . It requires “safety plans and drills”
Alyssa’s Law (signed by Kotek in 2025) only tells districts to “consider” panic alarms — it does not require them.
Bend-La Pine reviewed security after a 2024 loaded-gun incident and still did not install them or put an officer at every building.
Oct 15, 2026: A former student walks onto the Silver Rail Elementary campus in Bend, shoots through doors into a special-needs classroom, and kills three kids and a teacher before an armed parent stops him. No SRO was on site.
Now the same media who treated laws, SRO removals and racial injustice like the gold standard are asking questions about why the state doesn’t mandate officers and defensible entry points.
The same DEMOCRAT politicians who believe optional panic alarms, fewer police and more gun laws could have prevented this simply by banning guns in that area. Read into that: they want to ban guns in general.
The state listens to groups like BLM, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action (both of these are part of Everytown for Gun Safety Network), Ceasefire Oregon, Lift Every Voice Oregon and Oregon Alliance for Gun Safety.
The above groups are all linked to the push, press release and lobbying and signing for SB 554, Measure 114 and SB 243.
So when you see Wyden or Bynum next time demanding more gun control, ask them why they’re not demanding more concrete public safety measures like SRO’s and everything they refuse to actually push.
They don’t actual care. Not one bit. It’s all political caving to lobbyist groups while blaming police for making students feel “unsafe”

Oregon has the highest rate of any mental illness among U.S. states, with an estimated 31.6% of adults affected in 2023–2024—nearly one in three, compared with 23.1% nationally.
This is a significant public-health challenge that demands accessible treatment, effective prevention and stronger mental-health services.

Yup.
If you see someone online slamming Drazan and they have to use the keywords “MAGA Trump supporter” within their post - just smile.
It’s a pretty good indication they know nothing about the problems Oregon faces and are part of the “vote blue no matter who” crowd. The same people who got us here.
Most independent, non-affiliated voters thinkers I know are done with the Democrats this time around.

Weird how you keep defending a failing governor and even her rag The Oregonian admitted it today. And you’re still defending her? Color me shocked. Tina has had a full term and only now starts building task forces and panels?
