While it was talked about a few weeks ago and kind of died down, total subnet slots should not need to be expanded to 256.
Instead, lets try:
- Making price discovery more efficient
- Lessening subnet immunity from 120 days
Better price efficiency would make emission flow more dynamic. These changes would help increase churn and lessen the total number of stagnant subnet slots. Overall, this enhances a principle Bittensor was founded on: Competition.

Root Reborn turned root staking into something you can actually watch happen. Every validator now runs their root stake as its own basket, weighted across subnets, and how well that basket performs over time is public for anyone to check.
Over the last 7 days, Taostats’ basket has outperformed nearly every other validator’s. We’re one of the only ones in positive territory, up 1.08%, while alpha prices have pulled back against TAO across most of the network.
That’s not one lucky week showing up in a chart. It’s years spent assigning weights to subnets and being in the trenches, which has taught us how to understand and allocate to long term value in the network.
Full transparency on how that’s paid for. We still take a validator take. That’s what funds our entire operation, so we don’t need to charge fees on transactions elsewhere.
