This latest article from Thomas Pikkety, the renowned French economist and leading authority on wealth inequality, should be essential reading here in the UK. His argument is simple. France has never been wealthier. Yet education funding per student has fallen by 20% since 2017, public services are struggling, and inequality is deeply embedded in the system. Sound familiar? The problem isn't that our countries have run out of wealth. It's how that wealth is distributed, who controls it, and the political choices made to protect it. For decades, we've been told that austerity, declining public services and falling living standards are unavoidable consequences of economic crises, yet those same decades have seen extraordinary concentrations of private wealth. Socialise the costs. Privatise the gains. This is the reality we all need to wake up to. These aren't inevitable economic outcomes. They're the consequences of political choices, made over time, that have prioritised the accumulation of private wealth over the needs of society. And as public anger grows, we're seeing a deeply concerning response: The rise of the far right, directing that anger towards immigrants, disabled people, those claiming welfare and other vulnerable groups, rather than towards the economic structures responsible for the inequalities people are rightly furious about. As @NaomiAKlein describes fascism, "it's capitalism's most ferocious threat response. A way of directing public anger downwards at the vulnerable, rather than upwards at the system." Fascism doesn't challenge the status quo. It protects it by giving people someone else to blame. The fundamental question isn't whether our societies can afford something better. It's why, when we've never been wealthier, we're repeatedly told we must accept less. We need to fundamentally rethink an economy built around extraction, exploitation and wealth concentration, and start building one that delivers equitable, sustainable prosperity for everyone. And with the UK Budget next week, this should be a serious warning to @UKLabour. If the Budget fails to acknowledge this fundamental reality, and instead offers another round of "difficult decisions" that protect concentrated wealth while asking ordinary people to shoulder the burden, then @andyburnham really hasn't understood what's happening across Europe. What's unfolding in France isn't an isolated protest. It's a warning of what happens when people stop accepting that a society growing ever wealthier somehow can't afford to give them a better life. This isn't something politicians can keep kicking down the road. The warning signs are everywhere. The question now is whether those in power are prepared to confront the causes, or continue defending the very system that's driving the anger. @ZackPolanski @jeremycorbyn @KemiBadenoch @Nigel_Farage

In case you were wondering if Larry Ellison would use his partial ownership of TIKTok to shut down the exposure of his billionaire buddies and their weirdness, corruption and grifting … wonder no more. TikTok just shut down the media page of the world renowned, Oscar winning director Alex Gibney’s documentary film “MUSK”. The comprehensive documentary on all things Elon. It’s more f&@&’d then you can imagine. The best thing any of us can do now is to go see it! It will blow your mind. Billionaire broke mind virus. Hear it from the people who have known Elon over the years. #BrokeMindVirus

Will Labour next week in the budget tell us sad stories about "difficult decisions" and how there's "no money left?" Or will this Labour Government challenge the broken economic thinking that has lead us to this place? And tax the assets of multimillionaires & billionaires? 👀

This project is expected to generate about $130bn. The UK is expected to get just $15bn spread over 30 years. The Israeli company that owns the majority share will get about $50bn.

Tommy Robinson said his two previous cases cost £200,000 combined, which Elon Musk paid for. Musk is also paying for his current case, which is costing another £200,000. That’s £400,000 since the end of 2024. “Cheap at any price.” Those were Jeffrey Epstein’s words about him.

2020: Matt Hancock, "Right from the start we've tried to throw a protective ring around our care homes" 2026: Baroness Hallett, "The claim that a so called protective ring has be thrown around care homes right from the start was unfounded. Quite the opposite is true. The adult social care sector as a whole, appeared to be something of an after thought" My view: Matt Hancock said the government had tried to throw a “protective ring” around care homes. He repeated the claim in Parliament. Nadhim Zahawi later publicly backed it, while Boris Johnson defended the government’s handling when challenged. Now Baroness Hallett’s inquiry has rejected the claim as unfounded: care homes were not protected from the start; adult social care was treated as an afterthought. This was more than a failure of words. Patients were discharged from hospitals into care homes without routine testing, and care homes were not advised to isolate those arrivals. Staff faced shortages of PPE and testing, while residents and families bore the consequences. The inquiry describes a system that failed to plan for the risks and failed to put care homes at the centre of its response. What we saw was a collective failure—a collaboration of incompetence at the expense of life. The phrase “protective ring” offered reassurance while the protections people needed were missing. Thousands of families were left grieving, and care workers were left trying to cope with the consequences. Those responsible should face the findings honestly, explain how this happened and make sure the lessons lead to change. But the question remains, why is there almost no accountability for the actions government ministers took during covid?

We don't want a low-fat bank tax. We don't want bank tax-lite. We don't want a "can't believe it's not a bank tax" bank tax. Healey needs to keep his back straight & win this tug of war to deliver a real windfall tax on the bank's bumper profits. positivemoney.org/action/sig…

Look at this MP 👆 Given half the chance, she'd strip away your social protections to fund tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and hand multibillion-pound contracts to Big Business. She wants to ration healthcare for millions, including children, while leaving people who cannot work because of disabilities to fend for themselves. The result? Disabled people pushed into even some new band of hyper-extreme poverty, with the most vulnerable paying the price for policies designed to benefit the wealthiest. I don't have a graph to illustrate this, but data says that there's 100% certainty that she's a cunt.

Here’s a radical thought: disabled kids become disabled adults . Disability doesn’t go away because you get older.

BREAKING: Zohran Mandani announces free pet food at 22 NYC food pantries starting today, to help struggling families keep their pets. "No New Yorker should have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their pets. Keeping families together means keeping pets at home, too." This is way better than using my tax dollars to buy Russian diesel. Thank you, Mayor, for showing how our tax dollars can be used to directly support our own citizens and their families!
