Alongside a cross-party group of MPs, I have written to Chris Bryant, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, urging him to intervene and halt the proposed Orange Order march along Garvaghy Road. We cannot allow old wounds to be reopened, divisions to be deepened and further harm caused across the entire community.

As smaller artists this week have delivered a masterclass in solidarity and courage against censorship on Palestine, it was incredibly fitting to watch the small but mighty Artists Union move this motion. It means the TUC has officially adopted support for the Palestinian led boycott, divestment and sanctions movement for the first time.
The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has endorsed the Palestinian-led movement for boycotts, divestment and sanctions (BDS), days after foreign secretary Ed Miliband said he “wholeheartedly opposed” the campaign. TUC Congress – an annual gathering of the UK’s major unions in Brighton representing over five million workers – voted to support the movement to apply diplomatic, economic and cultural pressure to end Israel’s apartheid policies and other crimes against Palestinians. The motion describes BDS as “an effective strategy to pressure Israel to end its ongoing genocide, system of apartheid, occupation and denial of the right of return for refugees”. The vote commits the TUC, and its member unions, to actively campaign for the UK to end military cooperation with Israel and support the introduction of broader sanctions against Israel. It also commits them to supporting “trade unionists, including artists and culture workers, who refuse to handle goods and services linked to violations of international law.” Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announced sanctions on illegal settlements in the West Bank last week, accusing Israel of turning a “blind eye to ethnic cleaning” in the territory. But he stopped short of introducing sanctions on Israel as a whole and said he “wholeheartedly opposed” the BDS movement. “We will continue to support important and valued trade with green line Israel precisely because we support the two state solution, including security and prosperity for Israel,” he told the commons. Peter Leary, deputy director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), said the vote showed “the limited steps announced by the government fall far short of meeting Britain’s legal obligations not to assist Israel’s ongoing genocide, apartheid, illegal occupation and other violations of international law.” Omar Barghouti, co-founder of the BDS movement, said: "This mass movement of solidarity with the people of Palestine, led by PSC with many trades unions affiliated to it, is the reason why your government was compelled to adopt minor measures in the right direction to end its complicity.” He added: “We are building massive power across the UK thanks to PSC and thanks to all the unions that have brought us to this point." The Israeli government has previously estimated that the BDS movement costs the country’s economy billions of pounds each year, and has made opposing the campaign a diplomatic priority.

The announcements today represent a significant shift from the Labour government, and let’s be clear, these would not have come without the resolve of millions of people who have marched, campaigned and refused to be silent on Palestine.

Lies from him to the end. The Labour Party wasn’t in financial ruin and for him to say moral ruin is laughable considering the scandals and mistakes that defined his leadership. Many good people ran out of the party under Starmer by his factionalism and purging of socialists.
It has been an honour and a privilege to represent Holborn and St Pancras for the last 11 years. My statement.

A welcome and necessary intervention from Sadiq. We cannot ignore the climate crisis, which will impact and threaten the livelihood of all workers. Trade union leaders and the wider labour movement should be making this case loud and clear.

Proud to be one of 10 unions signing this. Revoking permission for US use of UK bases would have a significant impact on the US’s ability to further escalate a war that has been a catastrophic for the Middle East and an economic disaster worldwide. theguardian.com/business/202…

A measure of Labour's new leadership is whether they are prepared to return our Party to a broad church. It is a badge of shame that Diane has been without the whip so long; it must be restored immediately if genuine support and trust is to be rebuilt: labouroutlook.org/2026/07/30…

Increasing military spending will not help ordinary people, it will boost the profits of arms companies and make us less secure in an increasingly volatile world. The Government must invest in communities, not an arms race. #WelfareNotWarfare
