🚨 Just published in @TheLancetOncol! πŸ“Œ The #TRANSLATEtrial shows that LATP biopsy detects more clinically significant prostate cancer than TRUS (60.1% vs 54.4%; OR 1.32, p=0.031). 🧬 Lower infection risk πŸ“Š Comparable complications πŸ˜– Slightly more pain reported πŸ”— doi.org/10.1016/S1470-2045(2… πŸ“Έ See infographic below πŸ‘‡ @TranslateTrial @LambAlastair @HideYamaUrol @mercaderclaudia @Mutieraslan @CTBerridge @JessWhitburn @DrBenEddy @sashi_kommu #ProstateCancer #UroOncology #OncoTwitter

Results from the #NIHRfundedΒ @TranslateTrial, published in the @TheLancetOncol provide new evidence regarding the two currently available common techniques for prostate biopsy, to better inform urologists and patients of the relative trade-offs between the two techniques.
Researchers from around the UK, led by Oxford University, have found that a new way of performing prostate biopsies is better at diagnosing prostate cancer, but takes longer to perform and is more painful for patients. Find out more ⬇️

In fact, I think this is exactly what he meant… We should not downplay these trials just because they did not ultimately find a significant advantage in the infection rate. We should view them positively because, especially the latest one, it demonstrated an increase in the diagnosis of clinically significant prostate cancer, which, in the end, is what truly matters when we perform a biopsy.

Local anaesthetic transperineal biopsy versus transrectal prostate biopsy in prostate cancer detection (TRANSLATE): a multicentre, randomised, controlled trial - TP = greater detection of GGG 2 or higher disease
