All #EPs know #COVID19 increased #antibioticresistant #infections & deaths, but it also pushed #antibioticstewardship to the back burner.
Now #EDs have to help reverse that, say @LSMayMD of @UCDavisHealth & @DrMichaelPulia of @uwsmph. #FOAMed @writergina tinyurl.com/bdz2nxxj

Today's ED operations are crumbling. LOS for admitted pts rose 32% from 2019 to 2022. Pts leaving without treatment rose 86% (2.9% to 5.4%). Pts have longer waits, are more likely to leave, and board for long periods after admission. A major cause for this is nursing shortages.

Simulated disaster exercises are just one way we keep our department prepared to best serve our community in times of need.
Our faculty, residents, nurses, technicians and surgical colleagues displayed amazing teamwork when put through the test!
More than 100 staff members and emergency responders from the community took part in a simulated plane crash exercise. This exercise tested @UCDavisEM's emergency management plans, trained staff, and helped improve the medical center's ability to deal with disasters.
