NASA announced the results of Step 1 of the Astrophysics Probe competition. Unfortunately @LEMXray was not selected. We want to thank our amazing Team of 300+ scientists, engineers, and program managers, administrators, who dedicated 2 years to developing the LEM concept! (1/2)
But do not worry, LEM is not going away! The massive progress that the Team made developing the scientific ideas and mission concept will carry on. You will be hearing from us!

Need an example of the @LEMXray amazing capabilities? The X-ray tomography of @eROSITA_SRG bubbles! The left map shows an iron (FeXVII) line emission bubble in a #MilkyWay -like galaxy from the TNG50 simulation, resembling observed eROSITA bubbles. (1/2)

Greetings from the Applied Superconductivity Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah! In his invited talk, Nick Wakeham (NASA GSFC/UMBC) showed how NASA’s #microcalorimeter designs are being optimized to achieve the exquisite measurements of X-ray photon energy needed for @LEMXray. 🔬
With its unprecedented X-ray spectral resolution, this is exactly what @LEMXray will do! Cherry on the cake 🍰: LEM has a large field of view, allowing to capture even the closest #supernova remnants in their entirety! 🔭 (5/6)

Then Nhut Truong, co-chair of @LEMXray CGM Working Group, showed that X-ray future is microcalorimeter-bright and how LEM's first eV-scale all-sky survey will unveil the mysteries of the #eROSITAbubbles ! 🤩
Today, John ZuHone @astrojaz, a member of @LEMXray scientific leadership, shared results from Zhang+2024 which show how LEM will finally unveil gas motions in the galaxy cluster outskirts that imprint the history of the large scale structure formation!
