A multidisciplinary team of LAU engineering students won first place in the Lebanese Solar Energy Society's Engineering Students Final Year Project Renewable Energy Contest, held at the Order of Engineers and Architects in Beirut. Industrial engineering students Bechara Saliba and Cedra Al Zein, together with mechanical engineering students Georges Maacaroun and Anthony Farha, designed a fully integrated electric bus system connecting Byblos and Beirut. Their project addressed passenger demand forecasting, route planning, operating schedules, and a solar PV-powered charging facility sized to meet the fleet's full energy demand. The team collaborated with the UNDP Sustainable Transport Program for real transportation data and used Lebanese Solar Energy Society funding to access advanced simulation tools. Three of the eight finalist projects at this year's contest came from LAU. Congratulations to the winning team and to all the finalists who represented LAU at the competition. @LAUengineering news.lau.edu.lb/2026/lau-eng…

A team of LAU engineering students has developed DiaBEAT, a fully integrated, non-invasive glucose monitoring and insulin delivery system for diabetes patients. The system combines three connected modules: a bracelet that tracks glucose through the skin using near-infrared light emission and transmits data via Bluetooth, a belt that receives this data and automatically administers personalized insulin doses, and a mobile application that gives patients real-time visibility into glucose levels, insulin injections, meals, history, and device battery status. #LAUEngineering #DiaBEAT #Diabetes #StudentInnovation @LAUengineering

A new government-university partnership will give Beirut residents a daily air quality index — a concrete response to research showing that 85–90% of deaths in Lebanon stem from non-communicable diseases, including those linked to air pollution. The initiative, announced by the Ministry of Environment during an LAU-hosted panel discussion, comes as Lebanon grapples with compounding environmental challenges worsened by the absence of a functioning public power grid. The engaging talk featured Environment Minister Tamara El Zein and drew students, industry leaders and academics with an interest in this critical issue.
