I read a post yesterday which suggested that Ireland's once great forests were intact when the English arrived and began to strip them for shipbuilding.
I don't know if it was through ignorance or a desire for dramatic effect but it was so off that the account has no business talking about Irish history or her once great forests.
Indeed, this once beautiful country was cloaked in woodland to the tune of at least 80% but that fantastic figure had already been reduced to around 15% when the English arrived and finished the job.
So yes past generations of English did terrible things here and finished off our forests for the Royal Navy, but the fact is that the job was already well underway and we cannot blame past generations for our failure to invest in the future of our children and our woodlands.

This is how it actually works btw.
You are handed the role of local administrator, you absorb public acrimony on behalf of the regime in the manner of a heat shield — then as you are used up and the public tire of you, you are rotated out for another bureaucrat.
The same rotten policies continue on just as before, now with a fresh face to sell them to the public.
The real prize comes afterwards in the form of endless dinners and handsomely compensated speaking events.
That is the administrative workflow. They're not really presidents or prime ministers or "leaders" in the way the average voter would understand the term. I'm not sure how long it has been like this.
They're just interchangeable heat shields.

You cannot morally analyze acts totally divorced from their context. Throwing boiling water on random people for no reason would indeed be worse than stealing. Throwing boiling water on people burning down your city is a positive moral good.

This is White liberal woman Helen Haines, an Australian Member of Parliament. She has repeatedly called for more cultural diversity in Australia, saying “we need to welcome people of all faiths and corners of the world.” She has supported efforts to resettle Afghans and Palestinians across Rural Australia.
Today she was run over outside her office by a 43-year-old man in a Toyota Land Cruiser. He had a knife on him and the incident is being treated as a terrorist attack. Police are not sharing the suspect’s name.
She is currently in the ICU fighting for her life.

Almost the entirety of the British Highstreet is now made up of 3 types of businesses:
1) Private Equity owned companies (Pizza Express, Burger King, Cafe Rouge, The Body Shop, Wagamamas, Zizzi, New Look, Bella Italia, Boots, WH Smith, etc)
2) Foreign owned businesses acting as fronts for skilled visa migrant scams and/or money laundering enterprises (Hairdressers, Kebab Shops, Vape Shops, etc)
3) Charity Shops. Largely in existence to sell off items left when people die.
It's difficult to imagine anything more dystopian than this.
