Thrilled to announce that our first PhD student Emily Feierman just won the UPenn Flexner Award for best 2024 Neuroscience Thesis. We couldn't be prouder. Check out her published paper here with a second paper already submitted. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

I suspect #3 is really #1 on this list as far as priorities go...

"A histone post-translational modification linked to lifelong susceptibility to stress in mice" An excellent overview of our work on H3K27me1 in @medical_xpress. Thanks to Lily Armstrong-Davies for the lovely Cover Art: The Weight of a Histone. I'll frame it in my office!

Also don’t expect to jump back in full force. I came back just for the lab stuff only for the first few weeks and kept my ooo message up for a few weeks longer to prioritize the science when my bandwidth was limited. Best decision ever.

My lab came up with some casual lab meeting plans for my ~8 week absence. Like an informal journal club day and a troubleshooting round table. I take zero credit (postdoc @kc_palozola led the charge and I wasn’t there!) But it helped keep the science moving and kept spirits up.

Contacting co-authors over the summer: Europeans: I am away for 2 months. Please email in September. Americans: Looks good. What journal are you submitting to? Want to write a grant on this? Canadians: The manuscript looks wonderful!! Here are some edits. How else can we help??

New CSHL Assistant Professor Katherine Alexander specializes in nuclear speckles (the proteins and RNA housed in the nucleus). Exploring their potential influence on gene regulation could lead to enhanced cancer patient outcomes. cshl.edu/katherine-alexander…

A huge congrats to @efeierman, our lead author and newly minted PhD and to the whole team. We couldn't have done this without multiple others in the lab and incredible collaborators from the labs of @Yael_David__ , @hao_wu_7, and @Fuccillomarc .
