The charity @tastedfeed offer early educators and teachers support, training and resources to deliver a range of simple taste education lessons for children. Was brilliant to see the team’s work firsthand on a visit to the amazing Archfield House Nursery and Preschool in Bristol

🧵1/2 This is such an important topic - many children & young people do not like plain water and it tastes different depending on supply - with this inconsistency being problematical for some. SO many benefits to liking and drinking enough water including healthy teeth
How does water taste to you? We are going to create new @tastedfeed lessons, helping children develop a preference for plain water (+informing why clean water matters/how devastating it is to be without it). If anyone here has learned ways to enjoy water more, do tell me...

A few things tried over the years in role as occupational therapist: Different temperatures including adding ice in fun shapes; filtering & involving children in process; drinking through and in/out of different cups/straws (including curly); sucking ice cubes/plain water ice pop

The girl fills bottles with water at home when she knows we're going to Wales. She loves the taste of our hard water and really dislikes the taste of soft water. I agree. Also always fill up any spare bottles in the car when we drive through Malvern - the very best tasting water.

Was lucky to pick one up in a charity shop for £2.50. It's brilliant. After cooking for 45 years I learned many new ideas. Read cover to cover, bought an instant pot, discarded unused pressure and slow cookers. (charity shops) and am enthused by cooking all over again

To answer the question, some water tastes dusty to me. And some water tastes "sweet." Not like it has sugar in it, but by analogy it seems sweet. I don't know if kids talk about tastes this way, but I feel like I taste water on the back of my tongue more than on the front/sides.

“If any food were a perfect candidate for changing our preferences, it’s beans,” @KitchenBee says. On this episode of The Opinions, she makes the case that these tiny legumes could help save the planet.

The science of the food plus law, economics and politics. Such a positive day - in no small part due to superb leadership and chairing by the peerless @SheilaDillon - thanks @ImperialBiz and @imperialchepi for moving the conversation forward.

Such a lovely celebration - thank you! Over the moon you loved these eccentric recipes as much as me: I had such fun archivally foraging for them. Wondering if @NigelSlater might find them intriguing - can’t resist spreading the word about Agatha Christie’s hot bean salad ..

Here's my @guardian obituary - following a 'critical' tribute - of the novelist and poet Paul Bailey, "perfect" (according to @holysmoke) host of radio interview series Third Ear and @TheBookerPrizes-shortlisted author of Gabriel's Lament, who died aged 87 theguardian.com/books/2024/n…

Tune in this evening to hear @KitchenBee discuss Sylvia Plath’s Tomato Soup Cake – and Vladimir Nabokov’s recipe for soft-boiled eggs – on @BBCFrontRow tonight.
On top of all his other writing achievements, Vladimir Nabokov wrote the greatest ever recipe for a soft-boiled egg. It's one of the recipes by famous writers in this little volume which I wrote the foreword to. I'll be on @BBCFrontRow tonight talking about it w/ @JLQuoVadis

And a very special #CookbookCorner shout-out to Sylvia Plath’s Tomato Soup Cake: A Compendium of Classic Authors’ Favourite Recipes, with a charming foreword by @KitchenBee. I couldn’t possibly love this book more! You might not want to eat all the recipes (one that transfixed me in horror was Noel Streatfield’s Filet de Bœuf aux Bananas, which begins “I have to admit that I am normally a very bad cook.”) but you’ll certainly want to read them. Absolutely ideal Christmas present!

Have you ever wondered what your favourite classic authors cooked? Here's your chance to wine and dine with them in a new collection of their recipes, curated from archives, letters and diaries. Out 7 November, with a foreword by @KitchenBee.

‘For all of her self-interest and avarice, Madame Restell does seem to have had one great and almost unheard-of quality in a 19th-century abortionist: she did not make a habit of killing her clients.’
