17 outbreaks in both LTC homes & acute care hospitals since Aug 31, 2026. Vaccines only rolled out starting Oct 13 in BC, with full antibody protection taking another 2 weeks. Time for #N95 in healthcare settings along with #HEPA cleaners or CR boxes. vch.ca/en/documents/facility…

When they ask why you are taking precautions explain “Researchers often compare it to Russian roulette: Any infection could be the one that leads to long Covid,” and tell them you don’t like those odds, and when they respond by rolling their eyes, just wish them luck.

Dozens of service members were injured in the tragic fire at CFB Wainwright. Four men lost their lives. We will honour them always.

The Canadian flag will fly at half-mast on federal buildings across Canada. All Canadians stand with the service members at CFB Wainwright, their families, and their community.

I’ve heard “it is so annoying when you use the phrase ‘during the pandemic’ to refer to 2020 and 2021” and someone replies: “we're actually still in the pandemic btw,” and while I am sorry for being annoying, please remember: catching Covid is more than just annoying.

New Op Ed Delaying vaccination when flu season and COVID infections are already spreading is akin to watching the forest fire grow bigger and bigger before deploying firefighters. #bcpoli surreynowleader.com/2026/10/…

Please take note of this change and delay. As usual thank you to @MoriartyLab and the team of volunteers doing the job of public health despite the data difficulties.

When I talk to people about the ongoing impact of COVID, I find it helpful to lead with a concrete, undeniable indicator, which is that there are about 3,000,000 more disabled workers in the US than at pandemic onset.

This is a series of compounding problems. Not enough beds->ER backups and then resp virus season and low vaccination levels in AB -> worse ER issues. We will have unnecessary deaths this fall/winter. Edmonton Journal edmontonjournal.com/news/cov… via @edmontonjournal

What a spectacular opinion piece! I can't stop laughing. If dual practice is good for surgeons and anesthetists why not make the system even better and let everyone in? Even the ER! Calgary Herald calgaryherald.com/opinion/co… via @calgaryherald

And these ED wait times & closures are only about to get worse thanks to our award winning BC PHO who once again rolled out of flu & Covid vaccines TOO LATE! Sick nurses, sick doctors call in sick. If they don’t, they make their colleagues & patients sick. #bcpoli
On emergency rooms… where are we now? Repeated closures. Excessive wait times. Patients needing emergency care left uninformed—and terrified. How did we get to the point that not having functioning emergency rooms was considered “business as usual” and not an all-hands-on-deck crisis?!? Blaming the closures and long waits on “staffing shortages” and not gross mismanagement is obscene. We have the resources. Let’s prioritize getting them where they need to be and addressing all the barriers preventing that from happening… now! We must listen to emergency room doctors who have been screaming for decades about the real causes of emergency room backlogs. And stop offering politically-motivated “solutions” that don’t address the real challenges.

I’m doing a 5K on October 18th to support research at the Tulane Cancer Center, here in the Deep South. I wanted to do something fun, so in addition to wearing an N95, I will wear an additional N95 on my person for every $50 donated (runsignup.com/mask). $50 = 1 N95 $500 = 10 N95s $5,000 = 100 N95s $50,000 = 1,000 N95s Any partial donation would help. $10 would add an additional mask for 1K of the race. A penny would add 1 meter with an additional mask. I’ll sum partial donations and round up in the end. Even a penny🪙 or reshare🔁 would help. FAQs World Record 🔹There does not presently appear to be a Guinness World Record for most N95s on an individual in a 5K. 🔹This year, I will go for an informal record. Guinness has not yet responded to my request to go for an official record, but there is always next year. Good Health, Safety, and Environmental Modeling 🔹I will mask properly. Extra masks will not be worn on top of my mask. 🔹All masks will be individually-wrapped N95s. I will eventually wear them or donate them, if someone wants them. Caveats 🔹It’s a fun run. All donations are final, even if weather or an injury strikes. Inclusivity 🔹There are many ways to support health and health justice. Please also contribute to your local mask bloc or engage in advocacy in other ways too. There are many great causes. 🔹Many people with chronic and serious illnesses are housebound or cannot run or could run but would then crash for days or weeks after. This is no endorsement of the primacy of exercise-based activities. How Your Donation Helps 🔹Your donation supports the fight against cancer and normalizes masking. 🔹Funds support the Tulane Cancer Center. Last year’s funds went toward a project to reduce the chances of bone metastases in the context of breast cancer. 🔹I avoid financial conflicts of interest like the plague, so I will not accept any payments or apply for any funds. Please help spread the word!
