I've been critical of many aspects of our health system and tried to gather data to support those criticisms.
Because I think it's not only important but possible for us to do better. What would I change? Glad you asked.

Remember, our government gave money to TELUS with some kind of secret deal to provide virtual care not doctors who work in offices who can also provide virtual care. You should never do virtual care without the possibility to do it in person we see so many horrors because of it. We have people billing $500,000 -$1.3 million a year diagnosing chronic fatigue syndrome based on checklists and phone calls, telling people they will never work again. I know because the patients tell me.

A problem doesn't disappear when the people who see it stop talking. We are concerned Bill 36 / HPOA could discourage candid professional advocacy.
Patients need warnings heard, not concerns left unspoken.

A considered approach to alternatives, as opposed to most of the partisan blathering we see. There are no easy choices here. Thanks for sharing your thought process. I happen to agree with your conclusions, but respect that others will approach the question differently. Thanks!

From TC letters.
"It appears that every inquiry as to how to get a new doctor has the same message: Put your name on the medical registry. If you are a senior, you could be six feet under before you are called."
Accurate. No social safety net for many.

We are now well into a provincial election that seems thoroughly improvised. BC NDP Premier David Eby improvised a reason — standing up to Donald Trump — that made no sense. Confronting him are four parties improvising their campaigns with various numbers of candidates, many of them total unknowns.

My BC election guarantee.
Whoever will be elected premier this weekend does not have a plan to fix our health care system.
First look at Conservative platform on health (30 pgs in...).
Overall impression. Platform documents are rushed, I get it. Especially with a snap election. But if you knew this was going to be fought on healthcare, and that's where you're weak, you should have put more time into that part of it.
If anyone is looking for any guarantees about public care or answers on how they would deliver care in general, they won't find them in this platform document.
In terms of useful promises about access to care, or even showing they really understand what's going on, this is every bit as bad as what the NDP has put out.
There are some smart people in the Conservative party who know what the issues are and how to deliver things, and it's pretty clear they didn't have a say in this document.
Bottom line. There's little substance here. They don't expect anyone to read this. They can tick off the box saying "we have a costed platform" and move on.
Everyone can now go back to their yelling mindless talking points at each other and not listening to what anyone says.
A few details that jumped out...
- "universal health care guarantee" ... will pay alternate provider (i.e. private) for surgeries (only) > benchmark waits. About as useful as Eby's "public health" guarantee (which doesn't guarantee access to public health either).
- "100 day review" - identify reforms from other universal systems... you could ask people here. or more importantly, you should have already
- fix HPOA (no details, but thanks for mentioning)
- "defend universal public health care" and "improve" ... but zero actual statements on allowing private care or not, where, etc.
- "proven technology to reduce admin" .. good. somehow "public clear information about access and outcomes" showed up here which I fully support. But details? Ok, given the timeline, I get it. But after being basically given a roadmap to deal with this and you still don't bother? Come on.
- ER's ... stop gap funding, no understanding of real problems, no
- mental health... good for review of MHA, but the details on this make no sense. and "improving access to mental health care" is another promise with nothing backing it up.
- the money parts of this aren't convincing
- none of the previous anti-vax garbage they've spouted is here, thankfully, and they've committed to paying for shingles vaccine
BC Conservative platform is out conservativebc.ca/plan/ - I’ll take a closer look but at first glance, don’t see a detailed plan to pay for major promises incl. big income tax cut other than talk of accelerating economic growth. Deficit reduction similar to NDPs. More to come

Ok, fair enough. The details don't at all support the claim (which is also too vague), and there's no credible plan or mention of most of the issues, but at least they made a statement and identified an aspirational goal. Mea culpa.
Conservative platform:
“We will fully fund and protect our universal public health care system and fix what the NDP has broken. And you will access health care with your BC Health Card, not your credit card, every time.”

Vote CentreBc and give a chance. Every party starts somewhere. We need your support to move ahead.

Analysis now is important but as you know NDP secrecy is the elephant in the room. The first thing conservatives will do is open the books. Hopefully in every ministry. Shit show. Lorne has said he doesn’t want to mislead anyone…. How can he avoid that with a lier like Eby?

Maybe the NDP should have prioritized funding the delivery of health care rather than the bloated bureaucracy …

❗️Eby NDP with a course set by prev MoH Adrian Dix has done more to destroy our healthcare system than any in my 3 generation-physician family

Some will argue the polls mean a vote for CentreBC is a wasted ballot.
I fundamentally disagree.
This is a party with an existential struggle due to the snap call.
Every vote counts to keep this party around.
And I would trust them with the balance of power.

Exactly right. During the debate, Eby touted that his gov't brought services to 5600 seniors. There are 820,000 people over 65 years of age in BC. That's .007 percent. Wow! What an accomplishment. 🙄
