All these game devs giving shit to Unreal for leaning into AI seem to be oblivious of what's going on.

I mean, sure, but now this is a different argument. You originally said that AI infringes because of market harms, but this hasn't been a consideration.
These examples are years old and I think most courts will weigh pros and cons and lean towards pros, as they have for years.

What all those rulings have in common is that they all prosecute copying material, not learning. ROSS built a tool to find headnotes "selected by Reuters". Anthropic was guilty of downloading books. Suno reproduced fragments. But training hasn't been found to be infringement.
@TimSweeneyEpic I will participate if Epic gives me the tokens

Machine learning is arguably less illegal than straight copying because copyright only protects the reproduction of copyrightable material. The closest thing to anything beyond copyright is moral rights, which largely don't exist in the US as they do in other countries.

the anti piracy movement was a coordinated push and lobbying by companies to make you not own the files of the games that you bought and give you less power as a consumer and make it illegal to redistribute those files, the irony of that tweet is really impressive

The term 'piracy' to describe prohibited copying has always been morally repugnant. People downloading stuff on the internet are actually just like people that board your ship, hold a gun to your head, and take your stuff.

Purely a moral and terminology argument, but there's no such thing
