Thoughts on the Gators: * Wow. Again, wow. College football. Go figure. * Just got boat-raced by two ordinary teams. Then got down 17-3 on the road to a ticked off Top 10 team. In front of 100,000 fans. And you don’t have your quarterback, best receiver, backup running back. So what happens? You totally dominate the rest of the game, score 24 unanswered points, get a huge takeaway late, and log a GIGANTIC win. Because of course! * Real tip of the cap to Sumrall. Never let them feel sorry for themselves. Clearly ready to play despite last two games, injuries, etc. This time handled the in-game adversity. He is getting through to these guys. You can feel it. * First game ball to Tramell Jones. What a gutsy, tough, well-played game. First college start, and hurt his last year in high school, so hadn’t started in forever. Took a bit to find a rhythm, then was terrific. Two touchdowns, some huge runs, took care of the ball, managed the game wonderfully. Was 22 of 35, 155 yds, 2 TDs. Rushed 10 times for 41 yards, including one to put the game away. Just a terrific performance. * Second game ball to Brad White. He figured out, as we all sort of did, that they had to blitz. Wrote about it here often. But rather than be stubborn as some coaches tend to be, he adapted. They blitzed like crazy and it helped them win the game. They also played lots of press man after the first two series. Obviously he said screw it, we’re gonna blitz, play press man, body them up and see what happens, happens. Felt like they blitzed on every play. Love it! * Blitzing also can unlock other pass-rushers who needed to get going. Who had to deal with chips and doubles. Hello LJ McCray. How about a 3rd game ball. * Baugh. What a freaking stud. Just that. 4th game ball. * Faulkner called a great game. Down so many weapons, he outdueled Mushchamp. Had Texas guessing last three quarters. Timing of his play calls was extraordinary. * Is there a quarterback controversy? Conversation for another day. Here is what I know - both are calm, cool, smart as hell, customers. Can win with either. They proved that. But man, so happy for Tramell. He’s waited a long time for this. Good for him, man. So good. * This is awesome. I’m in London. It’s already 9 pm. Screw it. I’m going to have a drink. Cheers.
