Cliveden House burnt down in 1849. The architect behind Parliament rebuilt it in two years. Now, Parliament has spent over a decade just planning its own repairs. What happened to the country that built things? 👇

This is the third time in three PMQs that Andy Burnham has had to correct what he’s said afterwards. This is now a recurring pattern where the PM spends all his time fixing his own gaffes, instead of sorting out welfare or finding the money to defend our country.
NEW: Andy Burnham has been forced to correct the record after his Anne Widdecombe trial blunder at PMQs yesterday. No10 has issued a clarification to Hansard and his words will be updated.

Welcome news from @CrossCountryUK, but Stamford must not be left behind! @aliciakearns, @RichardStamford and I have long called for more frequent trains and additional seats on the Birmingham New Street–Stansted Airport route. Improvements are long overdue for local passengers.

My condolences to Prime Minister Andy Burnham and all his family. No matter how old you are, or how much you try to prepare, losing your father is a profoundly painful experience. A part of your life that has always been there is suddenly gone forever and it can feel as though a part of you won’t ever be the same again. May Roy Burnham Rest In Peace.

🚨 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞-𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Following new legal advice, Ministers have paused and are being forced to review their plans to re-organise local councils for Rutland, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire. This is a major development and creates serious questions about whether the process and decisions taken so far were fair or legally robust. Crucially, what this means for residents is that: 1. All plans are on hold 2. Our Councils remain as they are indefinitely 3. Local elections in May 2027 will now go ahead for our existing councils, not new ones 4. For now, Rutland’s ceremonial county status is safe 5. Angela Rayner has explicitly confirmed she will be reconsidering the expansion of the City of Leicester We’ve fought these plans every step of the way, arguing that mega-councils drawn up by distant cities are wrong for our communities, and thousands of you have made your voices heard. Pressure works. This fight is not over and I’ll keep fighting for our communities, including presenting our petition against the proposals to No 10 and in Parliament on Monday. This has been a total waste of councils’ time and money, and has caused enormous anxiety for our communities and communities across the country. Most importantly it’s been a total distraction from the work councils need to get done serving our communities. (Letter is the Lincolnshire letter, near identical received for Rutland and Leicestershire)

Labour have been forced to pause their half-baked plans for local councils. At every turn, they've ignored the public and tried to draw the most convenient boundaries for themselves. Will they now make their reasons for the new boundaries public, so that we can scrutinise them?

Stamford leading the way in #Lincolnshire! Best of luck Jacob!
🚴‍♂️🇬🇧 A Lincolnshire lad is set to race the Tour of Britain in his home county! Jacob Bush, 21, from Stamford, has been selected to represent the Great Britain Cycling Team in this year’s Lloyds Tour of Britain Men. He’ll make his Tour of Britain debut when the race gets underway in Lincoln on Wednesday 2 September, before the second stage heads from Boston to Skegness on Thursday 3 September. Jacob has enjoyed a breakthrough season, including silver at the 2026 national criterium championships – and he’s particularly excited to be racing on home roads: 🗣️ “The first two stages of the race are the most special to me, as both start in my home county of Lincolnshire.” It’s a fantastic opportunity to see one of Lincolnshire’s own riders racing alongside some of the world’s best cyclists. 👏 📍 Find out more about Jacob, the stages coming to Lincolnshire and how you can get involved: bit.ly/4zHs4gG #TourOfBritain #Lincolnshire #Cycling #Lincoln #Boston #Skegness #GreatBritainCyclingTeam

𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐝. The Government’s plans to redraw council boundaries will fundamentally change how local decisions are made for generations to come. Yet your views have been ignored, and the Government has chosen to press ahead regardless, showing an appalling disregard for us all. Over 4,000 people have already backed my petition opposing local government reorganisation proposals. 🖊️ Please do add your name to my petition if you haven’t done so already: aliciakearns.com/local-gov-r… This fight is far from over.

Well said @marcgoldfinger_. Too much of politics is now defined by what parties are against. @Conservatives need to be the party of ideas, setting out what we positively want to achieve for Britain and how we will deliver it. Have a read below ⬇️
If the @Conservatives want to win the next generation of voters, we need to offer more than just criticism. We need a clear, credible and optimistic vision for the future of Britain. That’s the argument I make in my article for @ConHome. I’d love to know whether you agree 👇

My deepest condolences and those of the Conservative Party to the family and friends of Ann Widdecombe. She was a formidable politician who was never afraid to speak her mind and fought hard for what she believed. Always true to herself, her politics were strongly guided by her faith and her values. Rest in Peace, Ann.

Good to attend my first Health Scrutiny at @LincolnshireCC today. We discussed secondary care, NHS performance and the challenges facing health services across our county. I was pleased to ask a number of questions and look forward to playing my part in improving healthcare 🏥 – at Lincoln, England

Preventative support helps vulnerable residents stay independent and reduces pressure on families, carers, the NHS and social care. With key services ending and uncertainty still around Falls Response, residents deserve clarity on what comes next. I’ll keep pressing for answers

Today’s decision from the Health Secretary on prostate cancer screening is a missed opportunity - too timid, too slow, and lacking the bold ambition that we so desperately wanted to see. As I set out last week, I fundamentally disagree with the National Screening Committee’s advice on a future screening programme for prostate cancer, which is far too narrow. I strongly believe that if we are really to get on top of prostate cancer - the most common cancer in British men - then a proper, targeted screening programme for all those at higher risk is needed… and needed now. I welcome expanded provision of focal therapy, which I benefited from last year with my own cancer; this must be an urgent priority to make available across the NHS. And the recognition that more work is needed to screen at risk groups, such as black men, is important. But this was an opportunity for bold, decisive, life-saving action - action that would help save the heartache of too many families losing a loved-one to this disease. That, sadly, has been missed. We will continue the campaign to urge the Government to go further, faster and put in place a progressive policy that includes a proper screening programme for the most at-risk men.
